Hiccups - ALOT...

It seems that Baron gets a good case of the hiccups every day - sometimes twice a day, sometimes more.

Sometimes he hiccups once every 10 seconds, sometimes it is a rapid fire series of hiccups...it is tough to 'cure' them, and they often go away on their own.

Any advice? When Ben gets hiccups, I rub his chest, right between his front legs, and they go away...not so with Baron.

He gets this look on his face when he has the 'rapid fire' hiccups as if it might be a little uncomfortable...

Re: Hiccups - ALOT...

I'm sure it gets annoying. As my pup was younger, he had them everyday, especially after he ate (he used to eat really fast). He also used to growl at his hiccups when they didn't go away. It was pretty funny. "Hiicuppp!......Grrrrrrrrr.....Hicccuppp!....Grrrr rrrrr".

Sorry no advice. I know how to cure human hiccups, but I can't make my dog drink from a glass upside down.

Re: Hiccups - ALOT...

My pup too had them when he was younger. Can't remember the last time, so it must have been awhile. I know when I get them I don't like it, they probably don't either. I don't know how to make them go away, I just let them go away on their own.

Re: Hiccups - ALOT...

Athena had them alot when she was younger. I gave her ice cubes.

1) breaks down to liquid - coats her throat
2) makes her 'concentrate' on something, even though hiccups are an involuntary response.
3) she loves ice cubes!

win/win situation!

Hi Anne,

Try rubbing Baron's chest in circles in the opposite direction that you normally would and see if that works..it worked with Bailey when she was a puppy. I tended to rub in circles on the chest in a clockwise direction and tried counter clockwise and it worked...don't know why....but the results spoke for themselves.

Also..if you are feeding kibble dry...try putting some warmed water on it.

Re: Hiccups - ALOT...

Baron's food gets warm water on it, as does Ben's. Both sit for a few minutes to soak up most of the water. Both let out a fairly decent belch as well about 10 minutes after eating (and usually right in either my face or Dougs!)...

I will try the ice cube trick....he will, after all, eat ANY FOOD you put in his bowl, except for asparagus...
