Bladder infection......what food

Found out that Rommel has bladder infection. Do I have to give up giving him Innova. Vet thinks food could be causes problem. Is there any other great food that can help with the infection? Or is it possible that I could keep feeding him Innova and supply cranberry pills and Acidophilus/bifidus pills and keep it under control. I will not go to Science Diet I have read too many negative comments on the posts here. His last infection was in May, gave him medication and cleared it up. Also I was using cranberry pills (one a day) but then cut them down to 1 every other day that was probably my down fall. How much cranberry do you guys give your dogs? I guess I sound kind of lost......I am, don't know what to do. Hate to give up Innova he looks so good and get alot of comments on this. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Bladder infection......what food

we (my wife and i) have given our dogs (2) a diet of IAMS for large breed puppies, and Brewers Yeast and Garlic pills (1 pill for every 10lbs) this helps with there coats and kind of helps with the mosquitos. and Raven has not had a bladder infection yet and she is 17 months, now Reeses on the other hand is 17 weeks and has gotten her first bladder infection, we caught it on the first day that we say signs of it (she had about 20 accidents in that day) now she seems fine and we only have about 4 days left on the pills.

i have never heard about giving cranberry pills to help prevent bladder infection; i will have to look this up more.

but i know that the Brewers yeast and garlic pills do wonders for the coat.

Post Re: Bladder infection......what food

I honestly don't think it is the Innova that is causing the bladder infections...though you could try changing the food to California Natural, something with less ingredients?

You can give one cranberry pill everyday...if there is a dosage on the bottle, just give the adult dosage.

One thing I have noticed through the years is that dogs that tend to get bladder infections...are dogs that must hold their urine for many hours a day. The longer the urine sits in the bladder the more chance of an infection. I would suggest you encourage your dog to drink, and you let the dog out often to urinate. Keeping a full bladder for 8-10 hours is not normal or natural ....I know many dogs can, and must...but they do often have bladder or UTI's problems.

Funny, that Rommel got the bladder infection after staying at the vet's for his neuter surgery....he probably did not go while he was there for many, many hours....and the infection developed there.

Hopefully he will be feeling better soon.
