Sasha acting funny (rear end)

She keeps licking her rear end. Gets up and is pacing around the house. She lays down for a minute and then licks some more and then gets up and is acting strange. I looked and didnt see anything, but it does appear near her privates that there is something that looks like a vein maybe under her skin......and when I touch it , it bothers her. Shes constantly licking the carpet too and panting real bad.

Re: Sasha acting funny (rear end)

My first thought was possibly an issue with the anal glands.

But the panting & licking the carpet would be worrying me a bit. I'd probably give your vet a call, if they have an emergency line, just to make sure. Please keep us updated!

she will lay down and lick her rear end, then jump up and start sniffing and licking the carpet where here rear end was. It could be anal glands. she had to have them drained a couple years ago.

sounds like anal gland issues to me, especially if she had problems with them before and hasn't had them drained expressed in a couple of years. You could do it yourself, but it is nasty.

Re: Sasha acting funny (rear end)

Is she intact or is she spayed? If intact, when was her last season?

Well, that eliminates the idea of a pio. Next would be to check her for a bladder infection which can cause burning and rawness around the opening.

When my dog's anal glands haven't completely emptied during defecation, he will lick his rear end, then lick where he was sitting. He is licking off the smell. If her glands haven't emptied after her next poop, and you don't feel up to trying it yourself, then your vet will drain them for you and check for any other problems as well.

Does she smell fishy?

Yeah, I'll take her to the vet for that.

She's been on alot of anitbotics too from her TPLO surgery too. Maybe that caused a baladder infection. She has had them before. She also has been pooping an awful lot lately it seems.
