Arrow OFA Results

I'm very relieved to say that I got Parker's results from the OFA today:

The hip joint conformation was evaluated as: GOOD RO-65306G25M-PI

...No evidence of elbow dysplasia was recognized. NORMAL RO-EL4938M25-PI

Whew!

Your own eyes or your own vets words just don't cut it. You need those little official certificates in your hot little hands!!

Re: OFA Results

Phew!

What a relief, Trish. We're planning on getting Julius OFA'd once he turns two in November just for peace of mind.

Nope! I told them that I didn't want him under anesthetic (we were going to an obedience trial the next day). I worked in veterinary practices for years (in the past) so I've taken hundreds of xrays.

If you pre-arrange it, they'll book in a little extra time and you'll go in with them to take the xrays. You'll get your dog's head to talk to them and keep them calm. The vet manouvers the dog and takes the xray - we also had an assistant to help.

Please note that this ISN'T Uncommon! If your vet says no - find another vet who says yes.

Dr. Doner said, and I agreed, that the xrays were great. He said that we might have been able to get an Excellent rating if Parker was sedated (it's tough to get the perfect shot when they're awake). But he was confident we'd at LEAST get a good. I agreed that a Good was Good enough!

I don't like knocking dogs out for silly reasons. Unless I have to - I avoid it - especially for our big dogs.
