Vinnie got neutered today...

... and the vet said everything went very well... did the pre op blood screens and that was all good also. I get to pick him up around 5:30 today.

Now the hard part comes... keeping him still for a few days to heal...

almost forgot to mention he gained a whole 3 lbs in the month we've had him... I think I may need to be feeding him some more or trying the satin balls to get some muscle weight on the boy... he's starting to be known as skinny Vinnie Not what you'd think of for a nick name for a Rottie now is it.

How old is Vinnie now? He might be just going through an awkward stage. My condolences for him on his neutering - Rocco feels for him.!

Slow weight gain is best - it's always preferable to have a dog a bit too light than a bit too heavy, and sudden weight changes either way are very hard on the body. Hope he heals well!

He's about 10 months old and a rescue that is a bit under weight... he's 67 lbs. and we can still see his ribs, he should be about 5 - 10 lbs heavier according to the vet...

Re: Vinnie got neutered today...

Poor Guy! my boys know his pain!

When I got Brando neutered I thought yeah ok keep this furball thats full of piss and vinegar quiet for a 7 days what are they on?

We got thru it with LOTS of chewies! The 7 days went ALOT faster than I thought it would.. When Brando would get rambunctious I'd give him a chewie..the ONLY thing he likes more than playing is chewies..so rawhide, ears, snoots, pizzle sticks were all the rage for a week!

As for the gaining weight I honestly wouldn't throw the pounds on him quickly. Have you tried adding a bit of wet food to his diet (not sure what your feeding him). I've found it helps pack on the needed lbs without doing it too fast!

Ed, you may luck out as we did with Steven, he came home from his neutering a bit drunk, but by the next day and ever since you would never know he had surgery. He never bothered the incision site, nothing!
Good luck with Vinnie's recovery and getting some weight on the boy!
