Vomit from teething pain?

Can dogs vomit from pain? This morning i found that my lil guy puked his dinner up over night. AND for once he did not want to eat. I KNOW there wasn't much he could have gotten into the last few days, even poked around in his puke looking for something odd. Think I found something that looked like a little rock, or something, eww though. I did check out his teeth to see how its doing, he's still teething, and pretty good. I noticed they are bleeding more now than ever, and one tooth coming out looks like its giving him grief. I found some ambesol in my medecine cabinet, and after giving him a little on that affected tooth, he seemed to brighten up a bit. His poop today although not runny, much softer than usual, and really light in colour. I've stopped all other biscuits and treats (cept the little bits of my dehydrated liver to get him to eat his food).

I guess I should moisten his kibble for the next few days, make it easier on him, and more opt to eat.

Re: Vomit from teething pain?

I would not personally attribute gastro intestinal upsets to pain in a dog unless it was something excessive and life threatening.

Certainly not to teething pain.

Keep a watchful eye out, and if the lack of appetite persists, talk to your vet.

Post Re: Vomit from teething pain?

Welcome to the club
Baxter is also going through hard teething now. His gums are bleeding and he has a few stubborn molars that seem to be hanging in and don't want to come out.

Baxter has also had loose stools off and on for the last 3 weeks or so...and I'm sure it's from teething. I do remember my kids went through the same thing

I have been putting some really warm water on his kibble and letting it sit for about 5 minutes before feeding. His appetite seems to go up and down too...sometimes he cleans up all his breakfast, and sometimes he leaves a little. I've cut out the lunch meal because he did not seem too interested.

I've been giving him a frozen, raw marrow bone every other day for a lunch snack.....but now I'm wondering if this is causing the loose stools?? He has had raw bones and chicken necks, backs, tripe, etc. since he was 8 weeks old.

One good thing ....I have managed to save a few of his puppy teeth.

Gina

I would put your looser stools off on the marrow bones, Gina, not the teething.

No worries tho, he'll get used to it if you are consistent. A little more bulk in his diet might help too, maybe some canned pumpkin or steamed green beans.

Re: Vomit from teething pain?

Now you all are making me feel like a bad mom I feed raw and when my pups were teething, I still only fed raw. I didn't try to soften things up for them, I just gave them their normal turkey necks, chicken backs, beef ribs and whole mackerel to help those pesky puppy teeth find their way out of the mouth

Re: Vomit from teething pain?

A frozen chunk of carrot makes a great chew toy for a teething pup. Nice and cold to dull the pain and a wonderful texture to chomp on. I have the cutest picture of Wookie gnawing on a big ol' carrot from when she was in the hardcore teething phase. It looks like she should be saying "Mna, What's up Doc?"

A frozen wet (or broth soaked) rag works great too.

I don't know if you have heard of them but I gave Duce a Chillezz bone while he was teething. You soak it in water and freeze it - the down side there usually a small puddle of water where they were chewing it and the bone has the tendency to collect hair. I too managed to get a few baby teeth!

Re: Vomit from teething pain?

I can't get any teeth. He has one lower baby fang still hangin in. I check it every so often to see if I can salvage it, loosen it. Everyone says thats mean! lol I'm not hurting him, just checking if its loose enough to fall out. He hasn't dropped one tooth on the floor. I'm sure he's swallowed all of them.

So, not puking from the pain eh? How bout all the blood he's swallowed? The other day he was chompin on a bone, and his mouth got pretty bloody. So no more bones. He seems pretty content with his stuffed toy, and frozen rope dunked in chicken broth. He seems to enjoy things he can sink his teeth into.

I just thought it was odd he puked last night, AND his poop does seem normal, just a little light and softer. It's gotta be the discomfort he's in. As soon as the ambesol was put on the tooth that looked bad, his faced brightened right up! That made me feel better that numbing the pain exuberated some contentness for it.
