A freind of ours has Chirima's sister (Chubby) and the other day when we were visiting I noticed that one of her ears is very swollen. I looked as closely as possible for bite marks thinking that she might have been biten by a spider or snake or something but could not see anything. Has anyone ever experienced this? Chubby does not appear sick but she will cry when you touch her ear very hard.

Re: Swollen Ear Sounds like an ear hematoma. Is the swelling in the flap? Ear hematomas happen when head shaking or other trauma causes a capillary to break and the flap fills with blood. Dogs who violently shake their heads due to an ear infection can get these. If the ear is painful, a vet should check it and also check for an ear infection.

Re: Swollen Ear Yes, all the above could be the reason, but it's hard to say without a vet taking a look at it as there could be something your not seeing. Take him in to get checked out & get some meds so the pain will stop for the poor girl.

Re: Swollen Ear Yes, the swelling is in the flap. I do not know if she shakes her head since I only see her once in a while. I will tell them that they need to take her to a vet ASAP and get her some help. She does stay outside all the time, which does not make me happy, but as we all know there are alot of idiots that own these wonderful dogs. If they won't take her I will. Thank you for your information. I knew you would know the answer. This is the greatest web site ever!
