Parvo

If a new 11 week old puppy comes to a home with a 7 month old puppy with all of her shots (the 7 month old), could the new puppy still contract the parvovirus from her????

Re: Parvo

The parvo virus can be present for a short time in the stools of an immune dog. If they pick up the virus, it will only be present for a short time before it is eliminated by their immune system. Most pups actually get parvo from the environment rather than direct contact with an infected dog.

Re: Parvo

Thanks I was just wondering b/c... My bil just bought an 11 week old puppy and he currently owns a 7 month old. The day after he brought the puppy home he took her to the vets for shots, got the shots and at the vet said she was feverish. When I seen her she was really skinny ( you could see her ribs) and this was about 4 days after she was brought home. I said I think she needs to see the vet because she seemed lethargic to me. He took her in the next day and she was diagnosed with parvo. My BIL thinks it is from the breeders but I didn't know that she would still be here without treatment sooner than that. I thought parvo was pretty quick acting?

Re: Parvo

a few pups can recover without any treatment. The incubation period from exposure to the beginning of clinical signs is often several days. I bet if you contact the breeder you will find that littermates are sick too.

Re: Parvo

I was just talking to him and he said he was going to have his lawyer contact the breeder. Apparently he paid an extra $50.00 to have a health guarantee on the MIXED BREED pup That he was stupid enough to pay $750.00 for Anyhow the pup is currently receiving treatment at the vets where she is staying. I do not know much about parvo but thanks for your quick replies as it is the pup I am really concerned about no matter how she got here. My brother in law well he's a different story he only contacts me when somehting goes wrong and then that's the only time he ever takes my advice

Crystal.......'venting a little with my post'
