| Cost for Hip and Elbow X-Rays Max turns two next week and I'll be scheduling him for hip and elbow x-rays soon. I got an estimate from my vet for $331, with $155 of this for elbows, not including the fees for submission to OFA. This seems high to me. I think I paid around $100 for hip prelims a year ago, but our vet is moving into a brand new facility in October, which I'm sure has something to do with the rise in price. What rates have ya'll been paying for hip and elbow xrays?

| Re: Cost for Hip and Elbow X-Rays That's VERY expensive. I just had Eli done and only paid around $150 (would have to pull the invoice to be exact) for the films for both hips and elbows and the anesthesia. The cost for shipping the films and the OFA fee were not included in this. OFA fees were $35 and shipping (Express mail) was only $13...which the post office refunded to me since they did not arrive by the promised date and time. |

| Re: Cost for Hip and Elbow X-Rays We will be getting Squeak's hips and elbows tested next year (when she is 18 months) she is only 7 months now. But I did call to find out how much it would be because I was curious. This is what they told me.......remember though this is in Canada, so canadian dollars. For hips: $217.95 plus p.s.t they do not charge g.s.t so that will equal about $235.39 CAD for Hips alone. It also covers, trip to the vet, anesthesia, hospital stay for a couple of hours after the anesthetics, and free trip back home. |

| Re: Cost for Hip and Elbow X-Rays I called the Veterinary Hospital at UGA this week and was quoted rates much more in line with what I expected: CERF $20 (by a Canine Opthamologist) SAS $17 (by a Canine Cardiologist) OFA Hips and Elbows $145 - $255 (depending on amount of anesthetic used - this includes prelim reading from a Canine Ortho) PennHip $140 (or $219 - $330 if done with OFA) Microchip (AVID) $28 I can get hips, elbows, eyes and heart done for less than what my regular vet quoted for just hips and elbows. The only bad thing is they do CERF on Fridays, SAS on Mondays and Wednesdays, and OFA/PennHip xrays on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So it's 3 separate trips from Augusta to Athens. In any event, I feel much more comfortable with UGA doing the x-rays and exams since they do them all the time, rather than my regular vet, from whom I gather rarely does them, if ever. From what I've read, proper positioning on hip x-rays is very important, and poor positioning can cause a dog with good hips to fail.

| Re: Cost for Hip and Elbow X-Rays We did Banja's hips last week with sedation (not anesth) and it was $178. No submission, just looking. Bort was $300 back in '98. Froli (awake) was $105 (different vet)
