| Re: When To Nueter The general thinking by many people is to wait until the dog is 18-24 months old, to allow full development to take place. Remember that neutering isn't going to solve behavioural problems, so you'll need to get training and stay training, regardless of when you neuter. Many people do not neuter at all, and ALSO do not breed. If you are capable of being a responsible owner of an intact dog (and all that entails, to ensure no unwanted puppies: proper fencing, proper supervision, etc.), you can delay as long as you like, but many people prefer the peace of mind of having their dog neutered. It's up to you, at very least I'd wait until the dog is close to two years old (remembering that this means you have to deal with puberty and adolescence).

| Re: When To Nueter One of the things I have heard is to wait untill 3 years of age, so he can fully develope. I don't want to short change his development what so ever. Is this fact or fiction? |

| Re: When To Nueter I think it's up to you - if you don't want to deal with an intact dog, get him neutered when you can. Ben was neutered at 10 months old....I have no clue if this hindered his development but personally I don't care. He's healthy and happy and that's what matters to me. Many rescues neuter pups at 8-12 weeks of age - prior to adoption, and I know of one male that was neutered at 10 weeks and he doesn't seem to have suffered any developmental difficulties (gorgeous 3 year old now - nice structure, heck, nice everything on him!). |
