Fur missing around eye

Ok I KNOW I have seen this question posted here before but for the LIFE of me I cant find it! So Ill ask again. Harley has some fur around his right eye that is thining. I cant see any puppy pimples, I cant see any sores, I cant see any type of trauma at all to the area around the eye. He doesnt have any goop coming out of the eye, No signs of anything being wrong other then the fur thining around his right eye. I have been watching it this last week and Nothing on it had changed. Its just thin fur and thats it.
What the heck?!?!

Re: Fur missing around eye

I only had this happen to one dog and it was Angel. It started almost as a perfect line of missing hair under the bottom of the eye. Almost loooked like she was wearing grey eyeliner......

It was a long time ago and the vet said it was eye mites. Gave me some medicine they call liquid gold as a joke because it was so expensive.......

Not sure this helps any.....lol

Re: Fur missing around eye

Elmo has the same thing and we have deemed that is seasonal allergies, because it goes away in winter. I had him scrapped for mites and nothing showed. It has re-occured just recently and I have been watching it.

I would suggest getting a scraping for the mites, just to be on the safe side, and then a natural ointment. I actually just put a call into my vet to see what we did last year....the tech couldnt find it on the chart or more percisely couldnt decifer what we should use this year. I go all natural....so I can let you know what my vet tells us to do about it.

Good luck.

Normall, it is mange. Around the eye and sometimes on the muzzle is where it starts. Ask your vet to do a scraping

Re: Fur missing around eye

My female had the same thing, after a day the whites ofher eye became a bit red. The vet gave me some medicine to put into the eye and it went away after 2 days or so and the hair came back very quickly. Some sort of infection.

Re: Fur missing around eye

This was my question for my very first post when I found this forum. Harley had a perfect ring around her eye. The scraping came up negative and the vet said just wait and see. I'm guessing it was a combination of shelter stress and poor diet. It's taken a while but the hair has completely grown back in. I don't think this is your problem though, a scraping is definitely in order.
