Flies on his ears

Hello again. My 8 month old Rommel is having lots of trouble with flies on his ears. We started putting vasoline on his ears. We took him to the vet and the vet said that was fine. But, it being 85-90 in Indiana right now its like oozing off him. His ears right at the flap are loosing hair and the flies just live on him. I have been pulling him in the house for the majority of the day. Does anyone have any other things to use on their ears?????
