Aspirin

Let me preface this by saying that I know I need to speak with my vet about this and will next week, I'd just like to go in with some information. Rufus has a crooked left front leg due to an untreated fracture. If he over-exerts himself (ie., runs around the park like a maniac on crack), he is obviously sore and stiff later. Would aspirin help him? He's only 6 months old, I don't want to upset his stomach or organs.

Re: Aspirin

My arthritic lab was on aspirin for years. It seemed to help.

Re: Aspirin

My rescue rottie Maddy sometimes limps on her front foot after she has overexerted herself. She is about 65 lbs and about 8 yrs old. The vet said to give her 2 BABY aspirins twice a day until she's better. I found the regular ones upset her stomach so I use the enteric coated ones and hide them in breakfast and dinner food. Usually I only have to give her one day's worth and then she's better.

Re: Aspirin

Have you thought about correcting the crooked leg? I know in people they will rebreak and reset the bone so that it grows normally. Maybe this isn't an option for dogs?? Just a thought.

Re: Aspirin

When Rocco was on Rimadyl for a soft tissue injury the vet said buffered aspirin could also be used.

Re: Aspirin

Hi,

when our last bitch Hollie had Arthritis in her front paw our vet suggested one Aspirin twice a day (but she was fully grown). He said to avoid Paracetamol though because its poisonous to dogs.
