lump or cyst on top of head hi everyone, i noticed this about 1 - 1.5 months ago. My 1 year and 1 month old female puppy (Buffy) has some sort of growth ontop of her head (about 3-4 inches above left eye). I took her to the vet when i first noticed it, and when it was very small. The vet said no problem we'll remove it when i get her spayed (which is scheduled for May 17, 2003). Durning this time since the last appt (1 - 1.5 months) the growth has gotten much larger. At least 2-3 times bigger that it orginally was when i first noticed it. Lately, Buffy's been really "down". Not as hyper as normal and she seems to be un-interested in things she usually loves (certain foods, playing etc...) I guess my question is really a concern, does this sounds normal? Are cysts/growths normal on dogs/rotts? I hope it's not a cancer. If someone could shed some light on this subject, or someone with some experience, or credentials (a vet) that would be great. I just dont know what to think right now, until it gets removed and the vet gets a better look at it. Thanks for listening!!!

Re: bump/cyst on top of head 1 more thing, that cyst/growth is on the outside of the skin growing outwards. If i move her skin around, it moves with her skin, basiclly it's doesnt seem like it's growing inwards!

Re: lump or cyst on top of head Her depressive behavior is probably totally unrelated to the growth you are looking at. It does sound like a strange thing. did your vet have a "name" for it when he saw it earlier?

Re: lump or cyst on top of head Without knowing what is wrong, there is no way to guess what to do. You might want to have a vet visit now because if she is ill, you certainly do not want her going in for surgery without getting her well first.

| Re: lump or cyst on top of head This sounds EXACTLY like Chalice's fibrosarcoma. Have it tested, and if it is, have it taken off. These are fairly common is young dogs. Did your vet not aspirate it the first time you showed it to him??? I don't believe this has anything to do with her eating habits. Here was our thread on that subject: http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32241
