Thumbs up Vomiting!

Well, I'm off to the vet here shortly. The other day Diesel vomited, about 5 hours after he ate. He had chugged a lot of water before that so I figured it was because of that. He just threw up again. I wonder if he could be developing a food allergy?

The other week I posted about him not eating all of his food. I talked to my breeder about this and she said that his sire did the same thing around 9 mos. He gets Canidae and a spoonful of yogurt (plain, fat free, organic) with his food.

Got my baggie of his vomit and off to get him to the vet. Thank goodness for pet insurance!

Re: Vomiting!

Well, they don't know. Gonna give him some pepcid tomorrow and wait 24 hours before feeding him. He's in his crate resting. Of course, when we were at the vet he acted like nothing was wrong. He loves it there!

Did have some bad things happen there today.....he marked the examining room, then he kept wanting to say hi to the girls at the check out and kept jumping on this 5 foot ledge. I corrected him and then he proceeds to try to jump OVER it! He almost made it! Knocked her monitor all around. Then, he gets in position to poop! UGHHH!!!! Luckily, I got him outside before too much came out! What an experience! But everyone still loves him there!

They did say it could be a food allergy. The tech said she "still doesn't know about the food we are feeding him", she said it like she thinks its not good. We feed Canidae. I have printed out an ingredient list and given it to them before. It's in the front of his file! She said that she's heard a lot of dogs vomiting with this food.

My question is, what is the easiest, most accurate way of determing a food allergy. He has always had a sensitive stomach.

Oh - he weighed 87 lbs today!!! good thing I went, had to bump him up to the next Front Line! Luckily, Roxy will never outgrow the one she's on!

One way is to get him on a diet of cooked hamburger and rice (boil the burger in water and get rid of the fat) and see if he still gets sick. If he's all right with that, try him on a real blan dog food with as few ingredients as possible (like one source of meat, maybe chicken).

If he's only done this a couple of times, I think I'd wait and see how things go before trying to figure out what's going on. Especially if his father did the same thing.
