| warm weather and no AC Hey all... We are getting warm weather now, and i dont have AC in my house. When i get home from work my dog is panting to death (not literally..)in his stuffy crate. I have tried to keep a window open near him, but it does not help, it is probably hotter outside than in my house... any suggestions? I thought about putting a fan near his crate that will blow on him a little during the day, is that enough though?? logan p.s. i worry about leaving him with the run of the house yet (he is 7 1/2 months), so i still crate him... |

| Re: warm weather and no AC We have no AC in our home either. I bought a box fan for Julius while we were gone & he was crated. I turned it on a low/medium setting & he was happy as a clam. I also have a stainless steel water bowl bolted to the crate that was always full of fresh, clean water. Now that he's out of his crate while we're gone (he has access to three rooms) I have two fans going while we're gone. He knows where both of them are & will usually plop his butt in front of one or the other. When the hot weather started last year I removed all the blankets from his crate. He let me know to take them out one day when I came home & they were pushed all to one side. ![]() Brooke

| Re: warm weather and no AC Do you have a basement you can use. Most days during the summer I come home and the dogs are lounging in my room enjoying the natural cool. Even if it is concrete, at least that is cooler than upstairs. I would remove all heavy bedding to. Carpet peices work well with mine.

| Re: warm weather and no AC same problem here; no AC (our choice) and warm weather. Thankfully, where the dogs stay in (kitchen) when we are gone is on the west end of the house and is well shaded, but when it gets stuffy, we keep a large square fan blowing in there (we've learned - blow AWAY from the countertops/stove!!) and they have access to our unfinished basement, where it's nice and cool, although they rarely go down there. Iria loves to lay in front of the fan! We also practice "Texas cool":keep the curtains drawn when the sun is shining in and open them up when it's not. |

| Re: warm weather and no AC I don't think it's a big deal with warm weather and dogs. I'm not talking about outside dogs without shade and water, but an indoor dog shouldn't be a big worry for you. Maybe if you were in Arizona or something it would be. I suspect if you just provide plenty of water and a fan like Brooke mentioned your dog will be fine. Funny you mentioned this though. My cousin just asked me the other day if I would be running my air conditioning for my dog this summer. I said heck NO! If I want to run it for myself, sure - but strictly for the dogs comfort. I don't think so!

| Re: warm weather and no AC Open your house up at night and let a fan blow in the cooler air, close it up during the daytime, with windows covered to keep the heat and sun out, and turn on a fan. |
