Flea Bites? My parents just adopted a shelter dog today and she keeps scratching at flea bites on her belly and teats. Is there any kind of topical treatment that they can put on her that will ease the itching that is not harmful to her? Thanks for your advice.

Re: Flea Bites? First off, congrats to your parents on the new addition! They can bathe her in an Oatmeal based shampoo (I use earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe shampoo from PetCo) to help with the itches, and there is a topical spray-on hotspot treatment that I used on a dog last summer who had terrible flea bites... It is called "Veterinarian's Best Hot Spot Itch Relief Spray for Dogs" and they also make a foam "Veterinarian's Best Quick Soothe Hot Spot Foam For Dogs" - both available at PetCo. You can also suggest this to your parents: Itch Relief Spray A good bath in a flea shampoo should help get rid of any remaining fleas and many are aloe & oatmeal based to help soothe itching. Good luck to your parents in solving the itchy dog problem and again, congrats on their new addition!

Re: Flea Bites? Lots and lots of suds and then lots and lots of rinse water. Soapy water actually kills fleas! Isn't that great news? She will probably stop iching when they quit biting.

Re: Flea Bites? Thanks for the help. We gave her a bath and applied some Frontline to kill the fleas.
