Frequent "PEE" attempts

Can anyone give me any insight as to why little Mira, 7 and a half weeks is trying to pee, over and over? I have scheduled an appointment with the Vet this afternoon, but do any of the femal Rotty owners out there have any experience with this?

Thanks

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

female pups are incredibly prone to urinary tract infections

Try to take a urine sample with you, I'd bet she has an infection

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

UTI. That's what my young female did when she had a urinary tract infection.
Antibiotics were prescribed and she was Ok within a couple of days.

How long before you took her into the vet? I had to cancel today, and I will be taking Mira in tomorrow at 3pm. Did you wait hours, a day, days?

thanks

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

We take our pug in as soon as we notice her showing signs. Antibiotics do the trick and we give her vitamin c to help her.

Thanks, I just don't want to be waiting too long.

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

I took my girl to the vet immediately (within 2 hours) of seeing the signs. This condition is painful and I would advise you take her to the vet together with a sample of her urine ASAP.

Sorry for this uneducated question...how do you go about retrieving the sample?

With my pug, I take a shallow plastic container and stalk her in the yard. When she squats to pee. I slide the container under her and there you have it! Snap on the lid and off to the vets we go!

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

dependant upon the size of the dog and the sex :)

pie plate

pudding bowl (my personal favorite for all sizes)

soup ladel (especially useful for boys and "shy" girls)

Vets also have little sponges on sticks

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

I have a sterilised container (one of the ones pills come in from the vets) and I also keep a very small jug which I sterilise just before I need to take a sample.

Just follow the dog around the yard and the minute she squats I pop the jug under her and there we have it! Transfer the contents of the jug to the container and off to the vet with it.

Re: Frequent "PEE" attempts

I've done the same thing, but wanted to point out that some vets prefer to get their own sample, so if you're taking her in anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about chasing her around the yard.
