limping

whenever we run roxy (take her to the woods where she runs and swims or we get her together with her littermate) she gets so sore for the next few days and limps. we usually try to stretch her out and massage her after the run in the woods. when she was a pup she had a lot of bouts of limping and we figured it for pano. but she's 2 1/2 now. we were thinking about getting her x-rayed. she doesn't cry or anything, but i know it can't be comfortable for her.

to x-ray or not? i have a feeling they would definitely have to sedate her to a degree, so that always makes me nervous.

Re: limping

I would definately take her to see a vet. They may be able to manipulate her joints and detect some problems. I wouldn't rule out xrays to try to diagnose this too.

Re: limping

A proper view of the elbows requires sedation ........... or at least, I've simply gotten used to that requirement as the vets that tried to do my dogs without told me they are simply too darn strong to position correctly without. My elbow xrays have all been for OFA, but still that position gives the best view. I also would prefer that my dogs be sedated than wrestled with which I feel has long term consequences in their relationships with the vets. Hips are a different matter than the elbows but since I always have both done at the same time, I use sedation.

I suggest that a dog that has been limping after exercise all it's life warrants xrays. There is quite often something that can be surgically corrected with good results. Not always, but often enough.
