Luca's prelim hip xray results...

We went out and saw Dr. Link in Madison, Wi. today. Now remember this is after my vet said there was a 90% chance he would come out with minor hip displaysia...His results were prelim EXCELLENT!! I couldn't believe it when he said it, but I have the xray copies and they look perfect! What a great set up he has, took only 5 minutes and it was over. As far as his left leg being turned out more then his right, Dr. Link felt it was nothing to worry about. Now I am considering how I should react to my vets initial diagnosis. They are very nice, and I honestly think she was concerned. But ofcourse I have to wonder if this was a ploy to make more money by going through the xray, and anesthesia process (which Dr. Link does not do). For the $95 it was well worth the piece of mind, regardless.

Thank you everyone for your support, I am not going to worry about his leg anymore unless it actually bothers him in the future.

Joe, that's great news!!! I was just thinking about the 2 of you the other day. Glad to hear that Luca's hips are fine. And I'm glad that you were so happy with your vet visit, Madison is quite a trek, but they have great vets and a great veterinary university there too.

I am glad the news was good for your pup. As to your reactions to your vet I think you have to evaluate how they have cared for your dog up til now. Have you been satisfied that they seem to have you and your dogs welfare their main priority?? I know I have questioned my vet's opinions on occasion, but we discuss this together and can usually come to a meeting of the minds. Of course he has been taking care of my pets for almost 30 years

Re: Luca's prelim hip xray results...

Glad you went to a vet that specializes in doing x-rays. Even out here in CA I have heard of Dr. Link. Ever since my first show dog was pre-limed at 12 months (per contract), I have been a firm believer in always going to an expert for a diagnosis for joint problems like HD. "Regular" vets just don't know how to position and read a hip x-ray. Duncan was done by a regular vet and he say HD. Six months later I went to the OFA x-ray guru in my greater area and his came back as excellent. It is all in the positioning. A good position tells the tale, while a bad one clouds it.
A year a half ago Fizbin came up lame in the rear. I feared ACL as I had just gone through that with my other dog. The vet took hip x-rays and called me at work to tell me the "bad news". I was in a panic all the way to the vet's office. Once I saw the films, I told her no way in HELL did he have bad hips. He doesn't either.

That is excellent news, Joe. Off subject for one question, where did you get Luca's name? Our rottie at Rainbow Bridge was named Luca after my husband's favorite line from the Godfather and I had never heard of another.
Give your boy some love from another Luca lover.

LOL, Lisa, that is exactly where I got Luca's name. Luca Brasi from The Godfather! I couldn't think of a more loyal name, hehe.

Let me guess his favorite line....."It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."?

Joe and Lisa, this is so weird to read your last two posts..Our Vito is named for the Godfather and when I get a son from him someday, I am going to name him Luca!

This is too funny! My husband's line was "even Michael can't stop Luca Brasi"...obviously, my husband's name is Michael.
Thanks for the reply, both of you. Isn't it funny how much one great movie can inspire so many!
