| Re: Hoping someone may have seen this before Please let your friend know I will keep her and her beloved companion in my prayers... I am sure it has been very difficult for her. Obviously, her decision to put him down has not been made without a great deal of effort on her part. Now, she needs to let him "go"...and to trust her decision. Tell her she has our thoughts and support....

| Re: Hoping someone may have seen this before Poor boy. I hope she knows that she has given him a great gift, by taking him in and caring for him through this.

| Re: Hoping someone may have seen this before Hi Kimberley, Not sure if this helps but my pup who I've now had for 8 weeks has similar problems. Diarrhoea continuously since about a week and a half after I had him. More recently the runs were yellow in colour and quite sandy looking. First trip to the vet he was given I/D food, diarsanyl and lectade as he was extremely dehydrated. He was on this for about 1 week, started getting better, stools started to become firm and then I was told to wean him onto Hills Science Plan dried food. Did that and he seemed okay for about a week then he's eyes started getting murky and a bit red, diarrhoea again but this time with vomiting however, he did not lose any weight. Back to the vets second time, they gave him an injection, said that he seemed very windy as he just kept passing wind all the time and I could always hear his belly making rumbly sounds. Gave him a weeks course of Synulox (one tablet twice a day) and Royal Cain Sensitivity Control food. He started getting better within a couple of days, stools hardening then came a lot of pain when passing stools. I physically put my hands in the stools (YUK) to see what there was that could be hurting him passing them out. I found bits of twigs and what looked like threads (not worms) actual threads? don't know where he could have possibly eaten those from. Back to the vets yesterday, 3rd time! Vet checked him over and said he couldn't really find anything seriously wrong, he wasn't losing weight and not to worry about the painful stools as he had obviously been eating things he shouldn't and they were at least passing through his system. Again another weeks course of Synulox and a crate of Sensitivity Control but this time to be mixed with his dried food bit by bit and appointment to go back next tuesday for another check up. They told me that if he is still the same again, then they will analyse his stools and also, check for any possible blockages. I really don't know if any of the above is of any help but please, if nothing more can be done, they are in my thoughts to and I send my love. Eva |

| Re: Hoping someone may have seen this before PLEASE read this before making the final decision!!! Sorry, but this is going to be a long post. Iria and her litter-mate, Ares (my brother's dog) have had nasty, non-stop diarhea since December 03 (several months now). They have not been in contact with each other since last summer, so they did not infect one another, but it was weird they got the same thing at the same time (our vet thinks it is genetic). After many vet visits, several 100$$$, and doing much holistic dog health reading, we realized (as did the vet) that they had an ongoing small-intestine problem that was caused (in Iria's case anyway, a nasty intestinal bacterial infection, campylobacter - spelling??). The small intestine was so inflamed that any food was making it worse, not better. Iria was lucky, she did not have the drastic weight loss and was able to overcome this with a 24 hr fast, LOTS of Medtrol (cortisone) and several different types of antibiotics (we found out which she could tolerate and which she couldn't, unfortuneatly the ones she could tolerate weren't specific for the type of bacteria so she had to be on them much longer), as well as the prescription diet. She has been pill-free (after 3 1/2 months) for about one month and back on regular food and has only had diarhea twice since, but it so far has cleared up on its own (with kaopectate). Ares, on the other hand, has had drastic weight loss, and 2 episodes of where he just fell over, among other problems. They have tried many things, holistic and prescribed meds, and he is now finally on pregnasone and some antibiotics, and may have to stay on the pregnasone and a special diet for the rest of his life (they will be 5 in June). He's starting to come out of it, but I learned today he has diarhea again, but he is starting to gain some weight and has much more energy. IBD and IBS are serious and although not curable, are manageable; you just need to be able to figure out what they can and cannot eat and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES feed them anything else, no matter how hard they beg, or how cute they are, or "just because", or because they are so skinny you think you should feed them something, anything. What you may think is a yummy treat can kill them. We have been worried sick over these 2 dogs and are watching them intently to make sure they get better. Please keep us updated!!! I have been there and understand what you are going thru. |
