Black Spot on Tongue

My 3 year old recently got this black spot on her tongue. I thought for a few days that it ws a piece of dirt or something from outside, but it has not gone away. Has anyone else seen this?

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

Black spot, how large is it? Is it hard? You compaired it to a piece of dirt so I'm guessing it can't be that big. Could it be something stuck in her tongue?

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

Are you positive it is new? Black spots on the tongue are really really common in this breed. I've had several over the years with them

IF it is truely new, you might have the vet take a look at it as there are some uncommon growths that appear that way, though usually on the gum

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

Sajan has one on his tongue. I noticed it a few months ago and it's not getting any bigger or anything. It's about the size of a dime.

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

Our male has black spots on his tongue as well, but they are easily seen as pigment on his tongue, and not troublesome new areas that turned dark or have any texture to them. If these spots have texture, or appear to be other than pigment, I would have the vet look at them.

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

I would say it's about the size of 2 peas. I can't touch it because, when she opens her mouth for me, her tongue goes back in her throat. Natural reflex i guess. Iwould think if it was dirt or something it would have gone away by now, after eating and drinking

Wink Re: Black Spot on Tongue

My rottweiler has black spots on his tongue too but they've always been there and are just darker pigmentation on it.:)

This seems to be very common in rottweilers.:)

Re: Black Spot on Tongue

My Brandy has one also. I first noticed it on her when she was nearly a year old. At first I thought she had a clump of hair on her tongue but it was there the next day too so I tried to see what it was and it was just a black spot. I read a few months later either on this forum or another one that someone referred to this as a birthmark. Just that person's opinion.
