That's a good point. Many times the marrow bones you can find in the market are too small and can present a choking hazard, too. I get Luna's bones from a butcher shop where they cut them for me - I don't give her a marrow bone less than 4" in length.

Agreed and that's why I get my bones also from a butcher and the knuckle bones are good too. The shin bones I get are never less then 8-10 inches long. The small grocery store bones are great for small pups to start out with and as I suggested in my other post, it's always best to supervise, ESPECIALLY if you have an aggressive chewer . You have to get to know your dog as far as what chew toys are best for them since they're all different. Some have bitten through nylabones and make sure you don't get the gumabones, made by nylabone. It can be somewhat confusing since the package is very similar. They can easily be chewed and they can get BIG pieces off very quickly, not a good idea if they swallow them .

Have you ever tried a raw marrow or chin bone, if not I'll bet your dog would love it? There's also a small red ball made out of the same material as the kong and Czar loves to play with that, he throws it up in the air and runs after it , it's another fun toy, one that isn't easilly chewed apart. It has cutout areas where you can put treats. I've never done that bc then they may expect a treat all the time and it can also contribute to obesity.

Perhaps I missed it but how old is your dog?

Judy
Make sure if you have a small ball that there is a string attached so you can yank it out of the dogs throat when he swallows it!

Dude, do not try and re-invent the wheel, buy bones that are made for dogs to chew. Also, we give our dogs raw bones from the butcher and they love it and no dental problems for our dogs!
