No Testicles

I've recently added a GSD puppy to our family. I bought him when he was 9 weeks old his breeder said they were down before she shipped him, I've yet to see them and he was 13 weeks old yesterday. Any chance they will come down? He was purchased a show puppy.

Re: No Testicles

You've had him 4 weeks and no signs? What does your vet say? We had a litter of boxer pups that were either monarchid (one testicle) (sp? too lazy to look up right now) or cryptarchid (no testicles)(sp?) and we knew before they were ever placed in homes....at 8 weeks. If this is a show pup - you got a guarantee right?

Re: No Testicles

have your vet check him even though they may have been felt before they can go back up....if they are not down by 5 months of age they probably wont come down ...

Re: No Testicles

I actually called a reproduction specialist and she said that it is not uncommon for them to come down as late as 6 months she has even seen them come down at a 1 year. She said the actual term is bi-lateral cryptorchid uni-alteral cryptorchid there are only a handful of reported mynorchid cases and if she ever sees one in her professional career she would be suprised. It is when the dog is actually only born with one testicle.

Yes I do have a guarantee but its for a replacement puppy.

Re: No Testicles

My opinion has always been if they aren't there a breeder should not sell the pup as show/breeding stock on the hope that they will come down. Just like a bad bite correcting, maybe they will, but you have to sell what you are looking at at the time not what you hope will happen.

Re: No Testicles

Judy, this is true. What she was saying is that they were there and infact he was the only puppy at 5 weeks who had his, the thing is is that I've heard from other people that they might have been there and possibly the trauma from the flight caused him to suck them up. Have you ever heard of this happening. Or that they do sometimes go up and they never come back and also that in some lines the cords are very short so they never make it completely down but might be out of the stomach.

I also want to add that I purchased this puppy to show only and it is never my intention to breed him, even if they did come down or if he finished, he would still be neutered at the end of his career and we would move on to obedience this just might mean his obedience career will start early. I don't want to have to send him back but it could mean an expensive surgery. She said I could keep him and she would still replace him.

Of course, she did say that if they don't come down for any reason he is guaranteed but only with a replacement pup.

Re: No Testicles

My first dog (a Boxer) had, what we call “elevator stone”. We hoped for the best “it” would stay down, where it was supposed to be till he was 8 months old … but sadly… he ended up with the nickname: “Einstein” ;)

I was told, the testicle could be pulled down and fixed by sewing and also hormone injections could help. I said no thanks. What could I use a “perfect male” too, if we had manipulated with his jewels, at least not as a stud. That would not be right, since both cryptorchism and monorchism is very common here in Boxer and hereditary.

No matter if he was bought as show/working or pet, I would expect a male has at least two testicles and no less!!!

if you bought him from a reputable breeder that said they were down then i wouldnt worry yet they can go back up and also you said you havent seen them yet this leads me to ask this have you had him to the vet???? have you felt for them yourself?/( they are really not that easy to feel them as they arent fully developed )

Re: No Testicles

Some small dogs with wide inguinal rings actually retain the ability to pull the testicles into the body as an adult. A friend's Shiba Inu won a number of champion points before being excused from the ring for the third and final time, when they disappeared as the judge was examining him.
