Offensive Fishy Smell from Male

Hi, over the last couple of days i have noticed a strong fishy smell coming from the rear of our male, not really his anus as such but from the sides where his black fur turns into the tan of his bum... just on the edge there if you get my drift anyway we bathed him and he was fine for a day but he was just lying by my feet and the smell wafted up and my nose hairs melted what is this i read something about secreting anal glands? some info he is 8-9 months eats royal canin dog food and happy no itching or anything like that...

cheers

Re: Offensive Fishy Smell from Male

That is definately anal gland smell. lovely eh?

Anal glands should only be expressed if they are not emptying themselves. You should have your vet check them out

Re: Offensive Fishy Smell from Male

Ok a couple of questions.

1) is this a male thing?
2) do the glands express all the time?
3) how do i now if they are not expressing by themselves?
4) does nutering fix it?

thanks
