glass in foot

3 days ago I noticed my dog limping on the way home from a hike. I lifted his paw and noticed he stepped in glass on the sidewalk. I saw a chunk of glass completely embedded in his back pad and was able to get it out and there was blood but we made it home.

After we got home I wiped his feet down and checked them and nothing else seemed wrong. He hasn't been limping but I've noticed that everytime I try to wipe down his front left paw he pulls it back. I've looked at it again and didn't see any obvious cuts or glass or anything. So I've left it for about 3 days now.

Tonight I came home and he was so happy to see me he was jumping up off the ground and landing on the floor with his paws and all of a sudden he started whining and wimpering really loud. He ran away crying and holding up his left front paw. I had assistance holding him down and looked again at his pads and paw and see nothing. I put my fingers inside between the toes to feel around and he wimpers really loud and tries to snap at my hands because it hurts him to be touched there.

He's not limping or anything but something is really bothering him. I am going to make a vet appointment in the morning. But in the meantime until tomorrow... is there anything I can do or look for myself? Could there be a chance a chunk of glass got in there 3 days ago and the skin healed over? He hasn't been himself lately.

Re: glass in foot

Have him sit with that paw soaking in a bowl of warm epsom about 10 mins at a time as often as you can and it will take out soreness and help reduce angry tissue.
