Best food for Gaining Weight???

We found a Rottweiler just over a week ago who was severely underweight (only 49 lbs). The vet said she's about a year old. We have her on Large breed Puppy Chow right now to help her gain weight---she gained 9 1/2 lbs this week! However, she has horrible gas. Is the Puppy Chow the best way to help her gain the weight she needs or should we go with something else. (we also have a Beagle who is overweight and eats Nutro Lite--keeping them in their own dishes has also been a problem).

I can tell you that a teaspoon full of Yougart on top of the food can help either eliminate or cut back on the Gas!!! It works wonders for my dogs! As for the other part of your question I do not know how to answer that.

One of the best ways to add weight to a dog is to include some ground beef into their diet. Don't get some that is low in fat. Pasta will also add weight.

Re: Best food for Gaining Weight???

Get her off the Purina. I am just imagining how much came out the other end for her to have gained over 9 lbs on it.

One of the most calorie packed good foods is Innova . Their website is www.naturapet.com She will gain quickly on this food.
If you cannot get Innova get her on a better quality food such as Nutro Natural ( don't get the Large Breed... filled with grains) and then add in beef or chicken. You can also cook up some oatmeal or pasta or rice....the carbs are great to get weight on skinny dogs quick....and feed an extra meal with this.

Yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs are also great ad-ons for the kibble. Also canned dog food would give some extra calories too.

puppy food is fine for wieght gain for your dog or eagle makes a working formula that is like 20 percent fat.. i personal wouldnt take an undernourished dog and give it innova many dogs that are healthy and fit cant take there kitchen sink aproche to dog food for now i would keep it as bland and fattening as possible a as few of ingrediants as possible
