Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

About 3 hours ago Rajah swallowed my friend's baby's pacifier! I immediately called our vet who instructed us to give her two tablespoons of Hydrogen Peroxide and wait for her to vomit it up, after 20 mins. of no vomiting we were told to give her one more tablespoon....15 mins. later, still no vomiting. We were told to bring her it at that time. I was babysitting so I stayed home while my husband took her. They arrived at the vet around 2pm, at 3:30pm my husband called to say they had just taken her back to start Morphene to induce vomiting. Apparently Rajah puked up all her food, but no pacifier! We were told to wait to see if she can pass it, if she starts diarreah and/or vomiting we are to bring her in for surgery as she will have a blockage! This sucks! The vet had told me on the phone that if was very unlikely that Rajah could pass it on her own and that we needed to get it up! Has anyone been through this or simillar? Please help, as I am so scared for her at this moment. :(

She's home now

They just got home and Rajah is laying down. My husband said the vet put 6 grams of Morphene in Rajah's eye..that seems weird, but apparently that makes dogs puke.

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

the only thing that happened to us duce ate the end of a corn cob - we took him to the emergency vet and they gave him med and he puked his food and the cob. i understand the panic and helplessness. :( good luck and keep us informed!

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

O.K here's one for ya, Czar swallowed one of my gloves, a leather glove, the whole thing, boy did I freak out bc he NEVER EVER ate anything. When he was younger he would tear things up but never ate anything. I checked every poop and in 2 poops, low and behold was my leather glove, fingers intact. I didn't even know he ate it but found a piece of the lining on the floor and NO glove so I knew then he ate it.

I don't know what the pacifier looks like bc they have so many different kinds but all you can do is watch for it and see if she passes it. Try not to worry, I know that's easier said then done but hopefully she will pass it with no problem. Keep us posted and in the meantime I will pray all works out.

Back when my kids were little my one rottie got ahold of my sons pacifier but I got it before he swallowed it, things happen no matter how careful we are. Hugs to you my friend, everything will be alright.

The pacifier

I didn't really see it myself, but my friend said it is small. She said it's the smallest one her son has. I hope it is small enough to pass with out problems. The story behind this all is...Rajah LOVES the baby, Ethan and anything that belongs to him. She will lay her head on his diaper bag and be happy. Well, my friend's next to youngest son (she has four boys) had the pacifier and then I didn't see it again until we heard Rajah growling. She was growling at our puppy (she's new, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Daisey-we got her on Valentine's Day this year) my husband told her to drop it, but since it belongs to the baby there was no way she was going to do that. He tried to pry her mouth open and just then she looked at him and swallowed! He said it was like she knew if she swallowed he couldn't retrieve it! Crazy girl! So, there's the whole story behind it. I sure hope that darn pacifier will come out natually. The vet said it will be ok if it passes thru the intestines at certain angles, so we just have to pray it does. Thanks for the replies everyone. I will certainly keep you all posted.

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

well peroxide alone will not make them throw up usually next time take 1/4 cup of peroxide and mix 2 tablesones of salt with it they dont have to drink it all or take a tablespoon of salt put in his mouth then follow this with a tablespoon of peroxide he will throw up.. also when trying to expell a foriegn object it is important that your dog if possible eats before you do this as the food in the stomach helps capture the object and bring it up

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

Don't panick yet, just keep an eye out for it and if she'd stop eating then it's time to see the vet. I'll hope and pray she passes it soon :) .

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

More poop pacifier vibes! I'd be way worried too.

Many years ago a puppy I had ate some rat poison and we were 50 miles from the nearest vet ER. I called them & they told me to give him peroxide - but to keep on pouring it into him until he puked. I went through several turkey baster-fulls before he started horking & I thought the poor pup would never stop. He was fine the next day though, thank doG.

Re: Rajah swallowed a pacifier!

Not to over worry you but maybe I'm a bit more of a worry wart on these things. Most of those Pacies are made out of hard plastic. If he chewed it some before it went down it could have sharp pieces sticking out. Throwing it up or pooping it out could cause damage.

I think X rays should be done to see where it is and if it is still in one piece. Or if he even ate the darn thing.......
