Re: dog insurance

We went through http://www.petinsurance.com/ for Ben, and pay $383 per year (comes to about $32 per month). I have double cancer coverage and routine care & vaccination coverage. Yes, it sounds pricey but dog forbid something happened to Ben...I feel better knowing we have coverage for high $$ surgery and emergencies.

I rarely use my own health insurance but it's nice to know I have it if I need it!

Re: dog insurance

it is my understanding that vpi (petinsurance.com) does not cover hip dysplasia issues - i think having insurance is a good thing, but i would never give them my money if they're not covering something so crucial to dogs. as far as the vaccination policy addition, are you really going to use all those things that are only partially covered, every year? don't know that i would. vaccinations don't cost that much - that can be a budgeted expense, where a surgery that costs thousands of dollars is well worth being covered. we have 100% coverage elsewhere, where vpi only has an extensive list of their allowable coverages, which in some cases amounts to less than 75% coverage.

PetCare... and they cover hip dysplasia, which VPI does not. that's pretty important in my opinion. anything is good to have with what everything could cost you - i just didn't like how VPI has this extensive list of their allowances, like they're blue shield or something. it is my understanding that PetCare will cover 70 or 100% or your bill, obviously depending on which policy you choose.

Thank you for the name of the insurance. It looks like we're going to possibly be switching to them....

:)

Re: dog insurance

I had considered PetCare coverage but decided to stay with VPI when I learned that PetCare charges at least $10 MORE for coverage for a Rottweiler simply because of the breed.

I was given no other reason for this 'select breed' price hike other than a sweet little candy coated "rather annoying) voice telling me that "The select breeds are more apt to get sick or prone to certain illness/disease so we have to charge more for people that want coverage for them"...nice huh?!?!

Re: dog insurance

I called VPI and was told that once Ben has had hip x-rays (already done) and is shown to be free of any pre-existing hip issues, he WILL be covered if anything comes up once the policy is in effect.
