Crystals in Urine

I need some input on this problem please! Three Rottweilers ..male 2 years, male 9 months, bitch 9 months...all related...have had bladder infections and crystals in their urine. The bitch has had three bladder stones removed and is now doing very well with the owners keeping a close eye on her. Her vet was very surprised that she had them because of her age. ( 7 months at the time of surgery) The males are both on meds and will be checked after a round of antibiotics. Just how common is this I am wondering? Anyone else having any problems like this? Oh, and they all eat different food and do not live in the same area....

Re: Crystals in Urine

Hi, just wondering if you found out anything more? Like Calebmyboy asked, did you find out what type of crystals they were? To my understanding, once you know what type of crystals the dog has you can help control them by diet.

Re: Crystals in Urine

In all the cases the crystals were struvite (not sure of sp). It is my understanding that the infections can cause the crystals so they are checking the urine frequently to make sure the crystals do not appear after the infection is gone. The bitch that had the stones removed has had no more trouble so far. I just wondered how common this problem is? One of the vets said that Rottweiler bitches are very prone to this? I do know the CD food is made to correct this. Hopefully after the infection is cleared up the problem will be solved.....
