Dog Arthritis Formula

/www.puritanvitamins.com/pages/file.asp?xs=D2CD4AB981894E8AA794E7C42F2740C2&PID=8 63&np=0

Just happened to get a catalogue today and saw this what do you guys think of this product after looking at it. Of course there is no chondrition in it that could be a problem. If you go to the more info box it will tell you the ingredients. Can anyone tell me where the cheapest place is to get Chondroflex II. Or is there a way to use human products for the supplements they need for hip dysplasia? Thanks

Re: Dog Arthritis Formula

[I cant help you with getting cheaper supplements, but I do know that when Chivas was battling osteo and was prescribed human supplements. She was dosed at the small adult size ( she was 116lbs), my holistic vet told me that most directions for supplements are given for a 160lb person, so to adjust for Chivas would be to give her 3/4 of what was the recommended doses.
For her MSM/Glucosamine - I would give her 5 caps a day versus 6. Some supplements (like Vitamin C and she was given 8000mg a day) is water soluable so it wont cause problems- but some can be toxic in the wrong dose.
Hope this helps some.

Re: Dog Arthritis Formula

Check out -----> www.puritanspride.com

I get the Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM for myself and Ben. He and I take the same stuff only he gets two pills, I get three. We also both take Garlic pills and Fish oil capsules (note to self-do not take Fish Oil capsule and then drink hot beverage - resulting burps taste nasty :D ).

He will be 5 yrs old in April and acts like a 2 yr old...

Re: Dog Arthritis Formula

Is it ok to give my dog a human type Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM. I have read alot of posts about it and am still somewhat confused, Is it purchased from a vet or is it purchased from a drugstore or something like that. My rotty suffers from OCD in he hocks. Is this a good remedy? Is there something better?

Ben and I both take the human formula Gluc/Chon/MSM. I spoke to the vet before starting him on it, and I know several friends of mine also use the human formula. I think one of the major differences between the canine and human formula is that the canine formula is liver flavored and chewable to make it easier to 'dose' the dog.

I've checked the total dose Ben gets now vs what he'd get with a canine version and it's darn near colse...he'd get more Glucosamine per dose with the canine version-but only 200mg and the vet said it's minimal.

If your dog is easy to give pills to the human formula is less expensive. Puritans Pride often has buy 1 get 1 free or buy 2 get 3 free offers...
