HELP! Addy ate lighter fluid!

HELP!! Addy chewed a lighter. She ingested about a teaspoon of lighter fluid.
I am searching the web for info ... does anyone know if I should give her something to induce vomiting - take her to the vet? Give her something like pepto?!
I am freaking out!

Giving some hydrogen peroxide will induce vomitting. I'm not sure how much but I'd give a tablespoon full. It will take a few minutes to take affect. I'd also call your vet's emergency number, or if you can find it the number for the animal poison hotline.

I found a number for a poison hotline, but they have a charge of $35 per use. Here's the number anyways 888-232-8870. There is also another one through the ASPCA, but they charge a $45 consulation fee(both are paid via credit card over the phone) and here is that number 888-426-4435

DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING if Rover eats or drinks petroleum products such as motor oil, gasoline, paint thinner, or lighter fluid or cleaning solutions such as bleach, ammonia, or laundry detergents – instead, give one dose of one or two tablespoons of cooking oil or mineral oil and call for help as soon as possible. (Most products today carry treatment information if the contents are ingested or inhaled.

Call your vet and if you can't reach them pronto, call the poison control center.

Plant and product poisoning can kill or cause serious illness, so contact your veterinarian or the National Poison Control Center at (900) 680-0000, (800) 548-2423, or (888) 426-4435 for instructions. (The National Poison Control Center at (900) 680-0000 costs $20 for the first five minutes and $2.95 for each additional minute billed to your telephone; (800) 548-2423 and (888) 426-4435 are credit- card-only numbers for $30 per case. Only Master Card, Visa, American Express, and Discover cards are accepted.)

THANK YOU!

Wanted to post a reply and THANK YOU SO MUCH for responding and for all your help! :)

Shortly after I posted, I called The Poison Control Center who directed me to the Animal Poison Control (you're right, it was a $45. charge) and just to be safe, I called the Emergency Vet Clinic. Both said that such a small amount would not hurt her. I had to leave the post to talk on the phone -- can't do 2 things at once when I'm nervous, I guess ...

Still, I don't feel comfortable about it ... she's acting totally normal - but I'm a worrier ... :(

I did learn a valuable lesson and thankfully, not the hard way. To NEVER, EVER, EVER leave anything dangerous where a dog MIGHT even THINK about getting it!

The lighter was on the coffee table, I had had it out to light Christmas candles ... she must have saw it and thought it interesting. I feel SO STUPID!

I also know that I have to watch her more closely now. She has never chewed on anything other than her toys (and back when - hands 'n toes) so I THOUGHT she wouldn't get into anything.

I've learned never to assume.

Maybe it's all the weird things that have been brought into the house. The tree. The bags. The decorations. She wanted to check out something new ... I'll never know why - but I will know to NEVER think she WON'T get into something!

Thanks so much again for your help! 'Twas' the night before Christmas and Mom sits up to watch Addy all night ...

Moondog & lblax's- Your posts were right on per the Vet!
Thank you.

Merry Christmas to all! And to all a good night!

I think she'll be fine. Are you sure she drank it? That stuff evaporates pretty fast...
Just trying to help you feel better...;)

Gracie,((((HUGS)))) how scary an ordeal for you to have to go through.
I am so glad Addy is going to be okay. Don't beat yourself up about this, We all make mistakes and luckily this one, although serious, wasn't fatal.
Consider this a learning experience and now you will be much better prepared as to what" little miss butane breath" :D ;) can get into.

Sometimes we can overlook the most obvious things, I know I have.

I am SO glad Larry and moondog were here to give correct timely advice. I shudder to think what COULD have happened if they had not been.
People need to be extremely careful when giving out advice in potential life threatening situations as this, unless they are 110% positive about the advise given, it could be a costly and fatal mistake. No offense intended to JD.
Hug that girl and tell her Santa Paws is NOT putting any coal in her stocking this year,;)
Happy Holidays my friend.

I'm glad she's going to be ok. This should remind us all to keep the poison control number by the telephone, or have it on auto dial, just in case!

I'm glad all is well! :) I didn't think a teaspoonful would be life threatening, but have no first hand knowledge myself. Always better to err on the side of caution where poisons are concerned!
