| Dog can't move Hello I am new here and was wondering if anyone can help me I have a 6 year old rottie she is my "pretty baby" as I call her, my question to you all is she started limping 2 days ago, and now she cannot walk all she does is lay around she still raises her head, but that is all she can do. We have to move her from side to side , she can't move on her own. Here is my problem I live in a very small community and the vet that is here cannot see her till Monday. This really makes me mad but there is nothing I can do, was hoping someone could help me out and let me know if you have experienced these types of things in your rotties. Please pray for my Sidnie. |

| you need to take her to an emergancy vet even if you have to drive......youve explained the situation to your vet and he still will not see her?????i'd report him to the spca and the veterinarian board in your state.....but most importantly get your dog to a vet whatever it takes |

| Lakota. First of all welcome to the forums, I am so sorry it has to be under these circumstances:( With out seeing your dog it is impossible for any of us to give you advice as to what it might be, Is she yelping in pain? To go from a limp to not moving is very vague, Where was she limping, is she eating? drinking? This sounds like a severe emergency and she needs to be seen by a vet right now! Forgive me if this sounds intrusive, but are you living on a reservation?I have very good friends in S.D that are Lakota Sioux, is there any chance you are near me? I'm sure if there were a vet available to you, that you would take her in as soon as you could. I will pray for her and hope you can get her help ASAP. Please keep us posted. I wish there were more we could do for you. I know you must feel helpless. |

| lakotindian - I'm hoping you get medical attention for your Sidnie. A dog suddenly going lame is an indication of a more serious problem. Is she dysplastic? Could she have a ruptured ACL? Could the dog have been hit by a car? or taken a steep fall? As much as we'd all like to help you, the best advice we can offer is for you to seek medical attention immediately. If Sidnie's malady started with limping and it's resulted in her immobility, it's apparent the problem is worsening. I wish you the best. Please let us know the outcome. kathy |

| Ok, I know I always sound like gloom and doom but its a valid concern. Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) can manifest itself in just the way you describe. Insist on Xrays AND bloodwork to get a better look. I cringe when people bring in a limping dog and gets a maybe diagnosis of sprain, ACL tear, etc - GET A DEFINITIVE diagnosis, better to be poorer and safe, then save a few bucks and sorely regret it later on. | Try to get her help right away It could be so many things and not for us to diagnose, I mean if a dog can't get up physically she MUST be taken to an emergency facility ASAP, this can't wait!! How does she go potty, how does she do anything? Please find someone who will see her NOW!!! Please keep us updated on her condition, depending on where you live it could also be lyme, that can show symptoms such as this and I've seen cases where a dog can NOT get up, they are physically unable and it's VERY painful so PLEASE get her help. You and Sidnie will be in my prayers. Judy |

| An ACL injury or HD does not make a dog unable to move. It is very possible that she has been declining and it was missed until the limp showed up. It is exceedingly unusual for a dog to go into being unable to move in such a short time, but regardless, this sounds like a crisis to me. I would suggest that you call the vet again and tell him that the dog is critical now and that she needs attention promptly. A small town vet usually is amenable to emergency calls and he might not have understood how critical this is if the initial call was for the limping. |

| Sidnie will be in my thoughts. I agree with everyone else. I would be contacting the vet & letting them know that Sidnie needs to be seen IMMEDIATLY! If they do not see her I would start calling vets in surrounding towns if need be. Please keep us updated! :) Brooke

| Hello All, This is let you all know that a Vet came here to my house today to check Sidnie out, he gave her a shot of cortisone and pain shot he said he will be back Monday to my house to draw blood on her, he also said he would come here to do this so we did not have to put her in unneeded pain. God Bless him. But he said this does not look good, her left front leg and shoulder is swelled today and in she is in pain:( . He said he thinks she has this osteocarsoma, if this is the case I don't know what I will do without her, all I can do is to pray to the Good Lord and he will let me know what to do. This is all I can let you all know for now till Monday. Thank-You all very much for your advice and support. |

| Oh geez. I am so very sorry. Many of us have lost our babies to cancer, especially osteo. The very best thing you could do is get an xray though. What kind of blood work has he done? I am glad your vet will make house calls, and can help you with some tough decisions you will need to make if this is osteo. Let us just hope it is a sprain or something that can be fixed for now. Did she get anything for pain control at all, other then just the shots to get you through till Monday? Thinking of the two of you...

| I'm so sorry. Your vet sounds very caring. Osteosarcoma is all too common in this great breed. Hang in there, and make every minute count. There's lots of support for you here.
