| ate a sock! I'm so worried, my puppy, 4 months ate a whole sock yesteday at a friends place. I have given him peroxide and now i'm just hoping that it will come out by itself! Don't know why he did this, he loves to play with socks but I guess i will have to stop this now. He has never chewed on socks before, just played with them. |

| It's not a very good idea to let puppys play with human clothes. My puppy ate a tiny sock once and just pooped it out but keep a close eye on him |

| Not everything that a dog has and that you cannot find was swallowed. Sometimes it is simply hidden under a chair, the bed, or in the bushes. |

| yes i know that they are masters in hiding things but i'm sure he ate the sock. Still hasn't come out. I'm going to wait until tomorrow, if it hasn't come out by then I guess I have to take him to the vet :( |

| Not sure when you gave the peroxide, but as a general comment - unless you give the peroxide within a short time after the dog eats whatever it is, there's no point in giving it. Is the puppy eating normally and not vomiting?

| He ate the sock yesterday evening, called the vet this morning and asked what to do and they told me to give him peroxide (paraffinolja) once in the morning and then tonight and then once more tomorrow morning. I don't have any experience on this so I'm doing what they told me, don't know what else I can do... Yes he is eating, he's not so fond of the dry food, i have had some trouble with that but i'm trying to get him to eat. This is not a new problem he is just very picky. He's waiting for something better to eat since I made the mistake of giving him cooked food earlier. But i'm now putting down the dry food for 20 min. and if he doesn't eat I pick it up again and then give it later on his next mealtime. So yes he's eating as much as before and no, no vomiting. |

| If he ate the sock yesterday I don't think giving peroxide the following day will do a bit of good. The peroxide is for immediate vomiting, If he did eat the sock it is already past his stomach and not going to be vomited up at this point. If you know for SURE he ate it, I would be for getting him TO the vet ASAP. |

| Has he had a bowel movement sicne he ate the sock? That would be my biggest concern. I have known dogs that have died from swallowing a sock before so don't take this situation lightly. |

| If that were my pup, I'd take him in for a barium study. That will show if the sock is moving through the small intestine or not. Please seek help BEFORE your pup gets into real trouble. Things can go bad quickly and the intestine can rupture from the stress of trying to pass the foreign body or from strangulation of the blood vessels that feed the intestine. Just ask my SIL...They wanted to "wait and see" but I dognapped their 3 year old Yellow Lab and by the time she was in surgery the wall of the intestine was SO close to rupture. Another 3-4 hours would most likely have cost the dog her life and they were planning to wait til the next morning to see a Vet. All this took place a little after 24 hours after swallowing a man's cotton athletic sock. If the pup chewed the sock before swallowing, there could be long pieces of thread that may see-saw and cut through the intestine as the parastalsis attempts to move it along. Good luck and I hope your pup comes through.

| Do you guys think it would be a good idea to try to get a dog to vomit a sock? I would think that there would be too great a chance of choking. |

| austin, I would be very concerned about that...the larger the sock, the more concerned I'd be, too. I think I'd be at the vet's office pronto and would not leave my dog alone until I knew the status of the sock! |

| I agree Moondog. Julius & I would be zooming to the vet now. Hopefully that's where this dog is. I'm sending good vibes its way. Brooke

| Thank you for all of your replies, I have good news! my baby got rid of the sock by himself, this morning (CET) he vomited and the sock came up! I have been so worried and haven't let him out of my sight since he ate the sock. I'm so glad that we didn't have to go to surgery. i know it could have gone really bad, i'm so thankful that it's solved. |
