Rear paw injury..

I had the two critters out for a long trail walk on friday, and while they were cavorting around in the woods, TJ ran into an old section of wire fence that was partially knocked down. Heck I didn't even see it there until he ran into it. He hit it pretty hard, but just backed off and continued on with the chase..

That afternoon, I noticed a little blood on out kitchen floor where TJ was standing at, and investigated to find that he had a gash in one if his pads, about a half inch to 3/4 inch long.. right on the front part of the toe.

I cleaned up the wound and put poly sporin on it. But since that time, TJ has been REALLY favouring the foot, and seems to not be quite himself .. I'm wondering if maybe he may have twisted something when he hit the fence, or whether the cut is bothering him enough that he doesn't want to stand on it.

Any thoughts on treament??

His leg has full range of movement, but the foot does seem to be a bit tender.

Old wire fences often have rust on them. If it is still tender, a vet visit may be in order.
