Eye question

Just a quick question...probably nothing to worry about..... An hour ago, Lucky was accidentaly hit in the eye with a small dog treat ( a freak accident, my husband tossed me the treat to give to her, it hit my hand, bounced off, and then hit Lucky directly in the eye....of all places.... :( ) Now, when I look at her eye, the one that was hit, the pupil is tiny. In the other eye, the pupil is large.....it looks really strange. If it still looks like this tomorrow, I will take her to the vet. Has anyone had this happen to one of their dogs?

No but for now if you put a little ice in a plastic baggie and wrap a towel around it, apply that directly to the eye. Just hold that up against her eye for about 10 minutes on and 5 minutes off. See if that helps. You can repeat that a few times tonight.

I wouldn't mess with the eyes

Hi Sara, the eye may be reacting to sensitivity as far as the pupil, IOW, light may bother it and perhaps the eye is scratched. I don't like to mess with the eyes, so if it isn't better I wouldn't hesitate to take her to get it checked out, better to be safe then sorry, you know what I mean. If she isn't opening it properly then as I said it may be scratched and need medical attention. Let us know how it is and what the outcome was:) .

I agree with Judy C.- eyes are too sensitive to try to play doctor (vet). You could do further damage in trying to help. The injury to the eye may resolve itself, but please get her to the vet and let us know how thing go.

Judy, I guess you didn't read all the posts completely. I had suggested applying the cold pack because I had a dog that got his eye scratched by a cat and we took him to a dog optomoligist and they advised us to put the cold pack on the eye while we transported him. Sara already indicated that she was going to the vet the next day and wanted to know if there was anything to do prior to that.

This morning when I woke up, Lucky's eye looked just fine. There was no drainage or redness and the pupil was normal size. I will keep checking it to make sure that nothing appears later. Thank you everyone so much for your help and tips.....:) :)
