Frontier bad luck continues

Nearly 3 years of bad luck and no end in sight :(

Most of you know that I have SIX geriatric dogs here who could drop dead anyday.

Like that is not bad enough.....

In September I took Xena (6 years) to be spayed and have a breast lump removed. The breast lump was of a nasty kind. The surgery was very expensive but the prognosis fairly ok if not great.

Within 12 hours of her spay she developed a lump in her upper arm muscle that grew in size over a week and then stabilized. then it actually seemed to get a bit smaller. On xray it looked like a fluid mass or a hematoma, but I had bad feelings. Then after a lot of exercise/leaping one day it grew again for another week, stabilized and then shifted. It is pushing up and out on her upper arm making her limp and her upper arm and shoulder to stick out.

We took her tonight for another xray and more diagostics... The news is really bad. Xena has Fibrosarcoma. Cancer of the upper arm muscles and it is moving fast

She has "maybe" 3 months. Realistically less because she will not be able to use the leg at all much sooner. Because of where it is and the speed it is spreading and because it is now over the lymph system, surgery is not an option, nor would I put her through another this soon

There is no traditional medication proven to work for this and just ONE natural one (acemannan). IF I can get it, I will try it for 30 days. However quality of life is most important and that takes precedence over my heart

In all likelyhood Xena will be gone before Christmas.

We are NOT telling the kids what she has yet. Dennis' mom (my sister) is going for thyroid cancer surgery next week and I don't want the kids scared and traumatized that she will die becuse I tell them Xena will be dying from cancer

First Darla and now her mom. The heart dogs go first..............

Think good thoughts for us

Diane

That's such a shame

Diane, I'm very sorry to hear about Xena, when it rains it pours:( . I always wondered how breeders dealt with having several dogs the same age, must be so stressful to know they could potentionally all have problems at some point in time:( and at times all at once. My prayers will continue for you and your 4 legged family, take care. Hugs!
