Let's Hope This Is The End Of All This.......

Hey All,

So we took Julius to the vet today. The vet gave us some Otomax & Oti-Clens to clear up his ears (they were ulcerated), along with his first shot of steroids to help with his allergic symptoms. I really hope this helps calm the problems he has been having with his eyes, ears, skin and so on. On top of that he is now on California Natural and we got his kennel for him to have more outdoor time. Leaving him with a lamb based diet to help figure out if its a food ingredient he is allergic to and the kennel to help if its dust mites. Let's hope this is the end of all this. . . . . Keep your fingers crossed!

Ryan

Poor Julius - ulcerated ears don't sound like fun at all!

If it's dust mites or something, I wonder if having the ducts cleaned in your house will help at all (it's fairly inexpensive.) When I posted about human allergies in ChitChat, someone suggested that - and I scheduled it for next Wednesday. :)

I talked to a friend here who has a kid with severe allergies. She gets her ducts cleaned every fall, says it makes a huge difference. Our house is about 3,000 sf and it's costing $450. This includes spraying some sort of sanitizer to get rid of mites, mold, etc.

I feel your pain

I hope Julius gets over whatever he is allergic to. I am going through a similiar thing with Sajan. He is on 1/2 pred everyday and 4 Benedryl 2x until we figure out what he is suddenly allergic to. I will stop the pred when the benedryl gets into his system, the vet said it takes about 3 weeks. I hate having to give him pred.

Hope Julius is all better soon:D

Actually this is something that we've been talking to the landlord about but never really thought that it might be causing some of Julius' discomfort. Duh! :p Since we rent we're asking the landlord to do it since they were filthy when we moved in last year. Plus we live right beside a well traveled road & the grime that can accumulate is pretty impressive if you let it. Thanks for the info. about pricing. I think I'm going to call around today after my classes. Now who would I call about that sort of thing? Someone who specializes in air-conditioning/heating???

:)

The RAST test is far less expensive than duct cleaning and will likely give you a definitive answer as to what he's allergic to. Although it's probably not a bad idea to get the ducts cleaned for the health of both humans and dog, especially if your landlord is paying for it. BTW, if there IS a dust mite allergy, duct cleaning may help, but it won't solve the problem.

Yeah,
The duct's would be covered by the land lord, I doubt he would cover a RAST test, hehe J/K =-) We are however going to keep the RAST test in our back pocket as a last resort. After his new food kicks in and more outdoor time is given and his symptoms are still bad we are most likley going to get the test done.
