| Torn Paw Pad last night I noticed Irie licking her paw non stop, looked down at her paw and she has a tear in her paw pad....It is not bleeding and she is not limping, but she does keep licking it. The skin is just hanging there. Should I take her to the vet for this or is there something at home I should do for this.

New Skin...you can get it at most drug stores.

If it's hanging there like a flap of pad, you may want to snip that loose part off and then do as samanthac suggested. Once she does leave it alone, it should heal quickly.

Save your money I was just about to start a thread on this very subject when I saw yours. I had the same thing with Dash and took her to the vet today Save your money! Get some Nu-skin as was suggested by samanthac and do it yourself. The vet( the one I dislike immensely) looked at her foot for 10 seconds, put some purple new-skin on it( half @ssed at that) and gave me some antibiotics for her $59.00!!!! the pills were $10.57 He charged 13.00 for a small glob of new-skin( that he didn't even put on the entire cut) and 36.00 for looking at her foot I was in and out of the office in 10 minutes. He said she would probably lick it off anyway. Keep it clean, watch for any signs of infection.. I put some neo sporin between her " toes"and wrapped it with gauze and vetwrap that I got at Wal~mart. If they can't lick it it will have a chance to heal.

Thanks for the advise all. Right after I wrote the post, I called the vet just incase and she filled anti biotics for Irie over the phone...No office visit needed. I purchased nu skin at the drug store as was suggested too. It has been working great. Her poor paw though..... It is all pink where the pad was and she was limping a bit on it. I wonder how long before the skin grows back????

How is Irie doing? Just checking in to see how Irie's paw is doing. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get a "lamp shade" for Dash. She won't stop licking! I have to put Newskin on twice a day and she will lick it incessantly, until she gets it all off I know that can't be good for her to ingest that stuff, Her wound is on the edge of her pad and more in between toes so it's hard to get that stuff in there. It's not healing as fast as I would like. I hope Irie is doing better.

Luna has a set of human baby medium weight cotton socks for times like this! All different colors, too. :) I keep them on with some J&J First Aid Tape around the top and that's enough of a deterrant for her. If she thinks about bothering it, I tell her "Uh, uh, honey, you leave that be. Unless you prefer a satellite dish?" :D :D
