Good news and Bad news!!! I rang my husband after I logged off here today and he told me to give the meds a chance to work and he will beat this Well I just couldn't leave it at that so I did make another appointment ;) I got in there and explained what has been happening and for the first time since this started...I WAS TAKEN SERIOUSLY! :D The new vet asked what tests had been done and I showed her the little piece of paper I had with the results. She was surprised that they had only done tests at the practice and said that he needs more extensive tests done! She got a blood sample and asked me to drop back in a feaces sample so she could send them both off ASAP. She then said she was going to examine him from head to toe. Next came the rectal exam I nearly fell on the floor when her mouth dropped open because she found a big lump inside his rectum :( She said that it is the size of a 20c piece and she is quite certain it isn't a pollop. She called another vet in to examine him as well and he was also quite amazed! Ok now I am VERY ANGRY that the other vets never picked this up!!! Not once was he given a rectal exam by the other vets, they only got a swab to test for parvo So in the meantime I come home and wait to get a sample to take back. I knew it wouldn't take him long and this time there was ALOT of blood but it didn't smell like diarrhea. I took it in and she had a look at it and told me that it was blood and tissue She was going to take a look at it before she sent it away. She said that because she had to examine him it would have irritated the lump causing such bleeding. She said that I am welcome to go back to my vet with the results she has found ( not on your nelly! ) I said the I do not wish to do that ;) She said that she is very happy to treat him and would love to help him get well again :) Needless to say I got home and called the other vet and *expressed* my unhappiness that this wasn't picked up and the fact that I was not taken seriously! I will keep him as comfortable as possible and as the vet said, we are going to move FORWARD from here! I thank god that I have this forum and its wonderful caring members to help me out because without it...Oh I don't even want to think about that!! A HUGE thank you to you all on behalf of Kane and myself :) Joanne

Oh what you've both been through Oh Joanne I'm sitting here in tears for you and Kane, this just makes me sick:( that you went through all this. I'm quite sure you have a hefty bill at the other vet, if I were you, I'd have a hard time paying it after all this . Poor Kane is probably all ulcerated in his bowel and rectum from all the bloody diarrhea:( and perhaps has open sores:( . I am so happy for you and so proud of you for continuing to follow through till you got answers:) . If you learned anything through this I'll bet it's to open your mouth and question everything, in spite of what they may think, right:D .Anyway sweetie, you're on the right track, I just pray now they get this poor boy relief fast and believe me, Kane will never forget the lengths yoo went for him to get him better. You're the best in my book and a great rottie mommy:D. Every morning first thing I come here to see how Kane is in hopes they found his problem, now they're on their way to doing so and I feel possitive for the first time since he's gotten sick. After I saw the bloodwork I freaked out bc I thought, wait a minute, where's the kidney levels and the liver, that would tell alot. Anyway, let this new vet do a complete workup and pray that it isn't anything serious. Take care Joanne and know I'll be praying for all of you and you will continue to be in my thoughts as well. Great BIG HUGS for you, for doing a wonderful job!!! Judy

New vet is sounding promising thankfully. Source of the blood sounds like it is found, next is to determine cause of the problem... and then to fix it. Keep him quiet and loved and happy and us posted! Did you ask about the possibility of IV hydration and nutrition at home?

At last! :) Most of us don't have to work that hard for answers, good for you for sticking by your puppy and not giving up! So what's the plan from here?

Kane is home with us and the diarrhea has finally started to clear up! I get results from the blood tests Monday and will post them as soon as I hear. I will post a pic of him in the picture this section ;) He is on a bland diet of chicken and rice for the next few days then I will gradually introduce his kibble again. He has been eagerly eating his meals today and has also been drinking plenty of water. Where to from here? Well, the tests were done to give an indication as to where he is at with the vomiting and diarrhea. Once we get the results of that she wants to do a biopsy on the lump, that is the culprit for all the blood in the feaces(sp?) This lump now seems to be the major cause for concern as she said that it is not a pollop where the skin is loose and hangs down, it is a hard lump attatched to the wall of his rectum :( I hope and pray that the outcome is good, I have been a complete mess today :( Joanne

Awwww Joanne you've been through so much:( . hang in their and everything will be alright. Right now you can't do anymore then what you've already done and I totally agree with the biopsy. You'll be exausted till this is all over. My prayers remain with you and your family and I pray it isn't anything serious but it's very important that you get your proper rest so you can think clearly. As for the picture, Oh yes, by all means let us see this special boy, it's always nice to put a face to a story. I'm so happy he's home with his family and that he's eating and drinking again. Stick to the diet that was prescribed and wait for the results, I know it's probably one of the hardest things to do, that waiting is a killer .Hugs to you sweetie and my very best to you. Judy

Now this sounds more like a vet doing her job! :) Such a waste of time and money with the other vets, not to mention worry for you and misery for Kane. :( I'm glad he's feeling a little better and I'm sending good thoughts your way that this lump can be taken care of successfully. I'll be worrying with you, so you're not alone! Give the little guy a scritch behind his ears for me and tell him we're all in his corner wishing him well! :)
