Spindle Cell Sarcoma

Well now that Gryphon is doing so well whith his chemo and all it's our other dogs turn... Clifford had a huge lump pop up right between his chest and abdoman... went to see the vet hoping it was just a fat deposite or the result of a bite or something like that but it wasn't. The Doc just called and told me it was something called "Spindle Cell Sarcoma". Since the lump (about the size of a golfball) poped up almost overnight it is obviously something that is happening rather fast. The Doc said it was best to have it removed asap and biopsyed to be sure. Hopefully it can be removed and he will be fine with no other complications.

Has anyone else ever heared of this type of cancer?

Also, if you all don't mind, all the wonderfull prayers and thoughts of Gryphon sure seemed to help with him so if you wouldn't mind doing it again for Cliff, we would deeply appreciate it.

He is having his surgery on Wednesday the 9th. I'll post the results when we have them.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts and prayers, you folks are the best.

Was thinking about you today

Wow Ed, for some reason I felt the need to check in on you and then the phone rang and I couldn't PM you right away. Then I come here and find out your other boy is sick:( . You've been on my mind, though didn't expect to hear news like this, I'm very sorry.

I'm very happy Gryph is doing well so now we must all get busy and pray for Clifford, poor boy. Ed you have my prayers and possitive thoughts in hopes it can be removed and all will be o.k.. Hang in their my friend and keep your chin up. Give both your boys a hug from me and know I will be thinking of you all. I still have Gryph on my refrig. and one by my computer.

Ed, of course Clifford is in our prayers also, maybe Gryphon can help him keep up his spirits... I am so sorry that you guys have to go through this ordeal again, its just not fair.

Can you please post the picture of those two together on the porch I think it was, so I can print it and put it next to Gryphon's .... we will keep him close in our prayers, and hope for nothing but positive news.

Lori and Makita

Yes post a picture again

Good idea Lori, I would like the 2 of them and print it out as well so I can pray for both of them on a regular basis. I have Gryph's picture in 2 places so he's a constant reminder for me:( . Just so sorry about this Ed.

Ed,

I am so sorry to hear that your family is being hit again by another round of cancer. I don't know much about spindle cell sarcoma other than my mother had it. It is very aggressive and can reocur quickly (at least in humans). My mother was diagnosed in June of 2001 and her leg was amputated within days of the diagnosis. She started chemo and radiation tretments, but within 6 months the doctors saw signs of cancer in her lungs. May 29th of 2002 she went to be with God.

Hopefully Clifford will fair ALOT better than my mother did.

You and your family are in my prayers

How is Cliff doing?

How is Cliff doing? I have been thinking and praying for you guys. How did the surgery go? Updates would be great so I know how to put my prayers into focus.

Update 7/16

Well Cliff had to go to a different hospital for his surgery because the first vet is not equipped for having to actually cut into muscle and his tumor was deep into the muscle on his chest right over his sternum(sp).

We are still waiting to hear the results of the biopsy although the surgen seems to feel we should be OK. They cut out enough extra all the way around the tumor so that they can test that area for cancer cells as well to see if it is further into the tissue.

Waiting is probably the hardest part of this so far. Cliff came home the same day he went in and was pretty sore for a couple of days but since he is the worlds most laid back dog to begin with, he seems to be back to normal and feeling OK.

Now we just have to wait for the results and in a couple of weeks go to get his staples removed. Hopefully that will be all.
