Found A Tick on Tiler

We went to the mountains last tuesday and I found the tick on thursday, I'm not sure when he got the thing. I pulled it off and unfortunately did not save it. Yesterday, Saturday we were back up at the lodge, and several people were commenting that he seemed lethargic, this morning he is wimpering when he walks, sits VERY square and upright, and doesn't want to lay down. He normally follows me from room to room and he isn't moving a whole lot. I'm hoping against hope that it isn't Lyme disease.

I don't know anything about this disease, only that it is very bad. I had heard that it is not real prevalent in Colorado. The only information on the net I've been able to find has been about people from the CDC. According to that Lyme is not real big here. BUt then I finally found my password to log on here and now I'm getting nervous. We are off to the vet in about 10 minutes for an emergency Sunday visit.

Wish Tiler luck, he's a good boy and doesn't deserve this.

Thanks,

Mike

lymes is only carried by the deer tick ( they are so tiny that they only look like a freckle) if you redily found this tick on your dog it was more thasn likely only a brown dog tick.. also lymes doesnt develope overnight to showing symptoms it progressive aver a long time that is what makes it bad by the time it starts showing symptom it has progressed for some time

BIG Relief

Just got back from the vet, apparently Tiler has back problems, at least that's what the vet thinks. According to him, Lymes Disease is rare here in Colorado. He has ruled out most of the tick borne diseases prevalent here and from the signs the dog is exhibiting is thinking a lower back problem. He administered a cortizone shot and has given me some pills for Tiler to take for the next several days. Of course there was the admonishment that if there is no improvement bring hime back.

This had me worried, I had read here about Lymes and several people commented about Lyme when they heard about the tick so I naturally jumped to conclusion.

Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.

I don't know what pills the vet gave you but I would think it is something that will make Tiler feel better. This can be a good and a bad thing. The discomfort will naturally slow the dog down allowing him to heal. The medication may mask the injury and since he feels better he may jump around and re-injure himself. I guess what I'm saying is to not let him over do it in the next week or so. Hope he gets better soon.

Amen, He will be staying home and no hard play for the next week or so. It one of those things, he may not like it, but it's good for him.
