| Drank around 20 oz of vegetable oil My extremely goofy adopted female rottie just drank around 20 oz of vegetable oil. Ugh, makes me gag thinking of it. Vet said shouldnt hurt her but may give her diarrhea, so she is right now banished outdoors since I have to work. The sheltie is babysitting her, and he is NOT happy about it! LOL Anyone have this happen before? I gave her some pepto in case of upset tummy, she is acting totally normal if a little drunk on oil. How long will it take to go through system so i know its safe to leave her in unsupervised??

| I've never had this happen... but I'd guess 1-2 days of loose stool would be expected. I've heard of giving rice for loose stool, but don't know if that would do any good here...

| Oh yuck and slip~n~slide. Hope things come out smooth for her. :D Glad to hear the vet said this shouldn't hurt her. Can I ask how in the world did she get into 20oz of vegetable oil? Of course if you'd rather not mention, that's fine too. But I'm dying to know. That's just so I'll know to keep my spaz Nikki away from something like that. Patty

| Is this a time where you might want to make her throw it up instead?? A tablespoon or two of hydrogen peroxide would take care of it.

| I dont know exactly WHEN she got it - sometime between 10am and 1pm today, so i dont know if making her vomit would have any effect. I wonder if she will have a nice shiny coat now! LOL

| I'd go ahead and try it myself. A few years ago our chocolate lab Jake ate a bag of Christmas Reese's cups. Same thing, we're weren't exactly sure of the time---some time in the morning, and it was early afternoon---but we went ahead with it. He threw up those little red, gold and green foil papers within minutes, and pooped in foil colors for about a day. At the very least, it should keep her from being uncomfortable for days on end.

| And giving her some pepto-bismol will help too.

| I think she will barf it up herself if it upsets her stomach. Luna had a fat absorption test when we were in the process of diagnosing her intestinal disease and she got to spend a day at the vets having oil syringed down her throat on an empty stomach while having periodic blood testing done. She did vomit a couple times and I'm sure it worsened her already present diarrhea, but she is a dog that can't absorb any fat, so I'm sure her reaction would be worse than it would be for a healthy dog. I'd let her system work it out and assign poop duty to your husband! :D |

| My hubby had a cocker spaniel mix that ate a whole bag of Hershey's kisses - the ones wrapped in pastel foil for Easter...she pooped pastel foil for about a week ![]() Worst thing I've ever seen 'come out the other end': A ribbon that was removed from a teddy bears neck by one of the dogs....bright blue! Luckily it DID pass through cuz it was about 2 feet long (big teddy bear neck)...stupid dog! |

| As the vet said - she'll be fine. A little loose in the bowel area, but fine. :DUnless specified by a vet, I would NOT encourage vomiting. Vomiting in some cases can actually worsen the potential damage caused by some ingested products (speeds up the body's absorption of it). So unless your vet says to induce vomiting, don't.
