Sajan's coming home today

I'm picking Sajan up at 12:30 today:D I can't wait to see him and from what they told me this morning, I think he is more than ready to get out of that cage. He's not being a good patient anymore, fighting them to take his meds and such:p

I'm very eager to see just how much he is still limping. They keep telling me he is barely limping and I find that hard to believe.

That's wonderful

Sharon I'm so glad you can bring Sajan home, look out he'll want to run his butt around after being in a cage, lol. He'll be so glad to see his mama. I hope they get to the bottom of his limp so you both can go on and have a normal happy life:D . Give him a great big hug from me and tell him aunt Judy said to be a good boy for his mommy. Let us know how he is when you get him home. Take care. HUGS!!!

What a fun trip that will be! I know you have missed him terribly.

And, remember, his limping may be reduced at this point just because of the confinement he has had over the last week. It may become more noticeable once he gets home if he has increased activity.

When do you expect to hear the results of the tests?

I sure did miss him and he's been glued to me since we got home, I think he might have missed me too:p

The specialist they are having look at the x-rays is at the University of Tenn vet school and is so busy it normally takes about a week for him to respond. I had them draw blood today to test him for Blastomycosis just to rule that out and that takes a few days since it's a titer. Other than that, he goes back in 10-14 days to have his stitches removed and 4 weeks from the surgery date he goes back for repeat x-rays to see if the suspicious spot has grown any.

Sajan seems to be limping a little less than before surgery but he is also on Rimadyl and was not on any pain meds before surgery. Time will tell if it's still there and I'm guessing it is.

I'll keep you all posted.

Just a reminder note of caution.....I know you have seen all the cautionary posts on Rimadyl. Be sure to research the archives to make sure this is what you really want him to be on.

I don't really want him on Rimadyl despite the fact that Mojo was on it the last two years of his life and suffered no harm. Besides all the negative aspects to it, his sensitive tummy want be able to handle it. A few weeks ago he was on Deramaxx, which is supposed to have fewer side effects and his tummy started bleeding after just 3 days. I am looking at natural ways to help his pain and inflammation.

Here's an alternative you may want to look into:

Traumeel is a homeopathic medication. It is a broad-spectrum, anti-edematous, antiexudative, anti-inflammatory analgesic composed of biological and mineral substances, and it is a homeopathic combination medication. It has been used to treat inflammation and a variety of injuries, mainly to stimulate wound healing, provide pain relief, stop bleeding, improve muscle tone, and for a potential antiviral effect. It is a safe alternative to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication. It has 12 biological ingredients and 2 mineral substances: Arnica montana, radix (mountain arnica), Calendula officinalis (calendula), Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel), Millefolium (milfoil), Belladonna (deadly nightshade), Aconitum napellus (monkshood), Chamomilla (chamomile), Symphytum officinale (comfrey), Bellis perennis (daisy), Echinacea angustifolia (narrow-leafed coneflower), Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower), Hypericum perforatum (St John's wort), Hepar sulphuris calcareum (calcium sulfide), and Mercurius solubilis (no common name).

Traumeel comes in a variety of forms....oral drops, injectible ampules and salves for external application. We are giving it a try on Luna to see if it can help reduce the inflammation in her small intestine. I'm using the Heel brand (German Company) injectible ampules and the oral drops and she hasn't had a problem with it at all. The jury is still out on whether it's a viable alternative for her disease, but I can say she is most definitely feeling better. To my delight, she has rediscovered hose wrestling!

I'm glad to hear Sajan is home and happy to be there! :)
