Aspirin to Rottweiler? One of our rottweilers has a cut in the top (small) pad on a front > foot. We washed it well with soap and then applied Neosporin and a > bandage. My husband thinks we should give him aspirin. I see aspirin > used in several forum topics, but is it necessary to use buffered vs. > plain aspirin and how much for a 90-pound dog?

I agree with Larry, he doesn't need an aspirin, a small cut is nothing (IMO, if it's painful enough to need pain meds, it's painful enough for him to go to the vet for a check). Also, it's important to remember that aspirin impedes blood clotting (that's part of why it's given to prevent heart attack), so it's a good practice to avoid aspirin when there's an open wound anyway. Neosporin is fine, but I'd forget the bandage after today - bandages can often do more harm than good, and wounds heal faster if they're exposed to air.

I second Spidey's advice. I just went through a bad cut pad experience and my vet did not dispense anything for pain. She says the nerve endings retract / die off immediately and come back slowly as the cuts heal so there really is no pain.

Keep it clean, keep a close eye on it, if you see any sign of infection, get your vet to prescribe antibiotics. Dash just had a cut to her front paw too. She licked it constantly, 10 days of antibiotics and its all healed
