Blastomycosis

Has anyone here had any experience with the fungus disease called Blastomycosis? I have had several Rottweiler breeders tell me that thay ahve had dogs with symptoms similiar to Sajan's including the x-rays and the dog had blastomycosis which IS treatable IF caught in time.

I am thinking about having him tested for it Monday. This is the same disease his mom died from in March and she only lived 1 1/2 hours from us.

Thanks

PM Kasey - I'm pretty sure that's what her dog has.

Here's another link:

Seems odd that you wouldn't see respiratory problems before it settled in joints, though.

Colloidal silver works well for fungus...I can give you some links if you'd like.

Moondog, I thought the same thing about the respiratory problems showing up first. All the info I have found also says a healthy dog's immune system kills the fungus. Sajan's mom was pregnant when she got it and all of the pups died within 2 weeks, so that fits.

I'm going to run it by my vet and see what he thinks.

Thanks Moondog & Lorhel

Just had to add my two cents worth. I have had my dog Sierra tested three times for fungus and results always come back negative but when treated with antifungals she gets better. If you do the test and it comes back negative, think about trying a run of the cheaper antifungal, if there is such a thing, and see what happens. But fair warning the antifungals are expensive!!! Of course for my dog the most costly drug was what worked the best. I have found a supplement that boost the immune system and she is doing well with that. We have been at this battle for four years so be ready for a long haul. If you want to talk or have questions please PM me and I can tell you all about her case and what worked and what didn't.
My thoughts are with you and Sajan.
You got get advise from someone on the board about staying positive, especially around the dog. The more I worried and cried over Sierra in the beginning the worse she got, it does neither one of you any good. Do your best to stay positive, I know that is really hard to do and when you need a good cry don't do it around Sajan. He needs you to be strong and fight for him.
Hang in there, I am here if you need me.
