Vomiting????

Just got a 10 month old who was orginally purchased from a very highly recommended breeder. Well her old owner was feeding her Purina Dog Chow. So first off I wanted to get her on a premimum dog food. I have always had good luck with Nutro, so I got some Nutro Max and a small bag of Dog Chow to mix in for awhile. Well all went find for the first two days. Now though for two nights in a row at roughly 4 AM she gets up and vomits. No chunks in her vomit, so she is digesting it fine. Looks mainly to be just stomach bile. She has not had diareahha yet. Her stool still looks good and is not extermely soft or anything. You can hear that she has some stomach aches.

I feed her two cups in the morning and two cups in the evening. She has never vommited during the day after her morning meal. She is not urinating frequently or anything like that. She does not seem to be stressed at all from the change in her enviroment. She has taken us in very good.

Any suggestions????????Any secerts to make her upset stomach go away?

Only things I can come up with is I did give her a rawhide and her old owner rarely ever gave her one. She ate some of it but for the most part was not to interested in it. I took that away about two days ago. The only other thing is if there is something in the Nutro that makes her stomach upset or that she is allergic too. Which would be strange since she was eating basically junk food (Dog Chow) which I'm sure is harder to digest.

Any help would be great.

Thanks all is forum is very interesting.

Congratulations on your 10 month old

I'm not familar with that food but it sounds like she gets up with an empty stomach if that's the only time he vomits. When is her last meal? If her weight is good, try slightly increasing the last meal OR better yet, give her some PLAIN Organic yogurt, that's what I do bc Czar who is 2 1/2 gets up around 7 and needs to eat right away otherwise he will vomit bile as well:( .

As for the rawhide, I wouldn't give her anymore of them, they swell in the stomach and can cause a blockage. Rottweilers are normally power chewers and don't just bite off small pieces. I strongly suggest to find another toy such as a nylabone and those you even have to watch. Be careful you don't accidentally pick up the gumabone by mistake, they're too soft! Hope this helps:D .

Thanks Judy.

She is healthy. Not over weight or under. She is a solid 75lbs. Trim figure.

Her last meal is usually around 6 PM. Her previous owner feed her basically the same schedule and she had no problem.

My guess is, with her new enviornment, and changes, plus the bad dog food she was on, are all causing the upset.

Just give it some time, for her to adjust to the new food. It may not be right for her, you may have to experiment with a couple before finding one that suits her best. Just remember, gradually add the food to whatever kibble she's eating at the time. A sudden change, will upset the stomach and cause major gas and sometimes diarh.

Congratulations, on your new pup. :)

And ditto on the rawhide. It is the worst. What you can give her are called Marrow Bones. They are not cooked. They are a bit messy, but they help her teeth, and have nutrients in the inside of the bone.

You can get them at a butcher shop. The good thing also, is they do not splinter, like rawhide.

Also, pig ears are fatty and I personally would not give her those either.

Just thinking of the stomach. :D ;)

I had a girl that did the exact same thing. Often times, she would eat grass to settle her stomach and that did seem to help. After seeing this for awhile, I started adding some blended up veggies to her diet (only the evening meal), I mixed in about a quarter of a cup and that seemed to stop the vomiting. Maybe she just outgrew the problem but she did vomit maybe once a week or every other week or so and after adding the veggies it stopped. You might want to try that?

Oh, I also had her on Pepcid AC and that seemed to help but only made it happen less often.
