ear flap covers hot spot

My almost four year old male has recently developed a hot spot (his first, to my knowledge). It is on his upper cheek, and his ear flap covers it very neatly. Too neatly. The underside of the ear flap is caked and crusty with a combination of ooze and medication (Betagen spray). I am trying to figure out a way to keep the ear off of the hot spot, to allow maximum ventilation to the area. His head is too broad to use the clothespin approach common on basset hounds on rainy days at conformation shows. Does anyone have any suggestions? Duct tape doesn't work.

I know sure but you know those head wraps they use on afghans and such? Maybe those would work, kinda like a big head elastic head band.

Instead of trying to flip his ear up on his head, how about folding it in half or rolling it into a cone kind of shape and using Johnson & Johnson first aid tape to hold it? That tape sticks pretty well and if you use enough so it's also sticking to itself I think it should stay on. Vet wrap might work, too. His ear would still be hanging, but maybe that would get enough of it out of the way so the air could get to the hot spot. One of my favorite things to do with Luna is roll her ears around my finger into a cone when we're watching TV. Kind of like people who twirl their hair when they're bored, LOL. :)

oh yeah that reminded me moondog - wet pruf tape - what they use to make ear crops stand up - would work too but i believe you have to get it from a vet. Not sure if you can buy at a big pet store or not.

How about clothespinning his ear to his collar instead of his other ear?
