painful sound

Every morning when I get up, Zeus, 18.5 week male, will get out of his crate, do a big stretch and yawn. This is normally when he "talks" to me. This morning, however, he yelped while yawning. I noticed, but didn't think much of it. But just seconds later when he yawned again, there was another yelp.
The yelp sounded like if a little paw gets stepped on. His behavior is totally normal, aside from this.

Could this be teething, and when his mouth stretched it hurt his gums? Or could it be that the past couple of days we have been playing more "tug of war"? Any thoughts would be great.

I posted it earlier but not to many replies. I have been doing a lot of looking on the web, and I came across things which make it sound like I should be worried.

one thing you shouldnt do is look up things about your dogs symptons on the web before you are done you will be convince it has every ailment known to man. it could be the teething or the combo of tug o war and teething( i personally wouldnt play that while you know he is activly teething) he could have an ear infection a pulled jaw muscle..... or maybe he just realized he can make a kewl sound.. i wouldnt worry if it persists ask your vet!!!! but if he seems fine in every other way dont worrry

I'm not sure exactly what kind of yelp you mean (hard to describe in words), but when my dog yawns, many times she will make a high pitched EOW kind of sound at the end of the yawn, especially if it was a big yawn. Similar to when we yawn and go HUUUU at the end. Did that make ANY sense? :D

Iblax is right about the web, you can drive yourself bonkers if you're not careful! :)

ok

Thanks for the advice on the web. You are right, I was making myself crazy, with worry. He has yawned at least a hundred times and no more yelps. Thanks again, and I'll stop the tug of war for now:D
