Injured ligaments in foot.

I noticed Aussie was limping about 2 weeks ago. At firsst I thought he just may have a small muscle strain or whatever, as the next day he was fine.
HOWEVER, after a few more days the limp became more pronounced.

This started happening after he was chasing squirrels and trying to climp up a tree after them, so, lots of jumping etc. etc.

I took Aus to the vet, and he tells me that he has pulled some ligaments in his foot and that it will take lot's of time to heal. I know this is true as I've had pulled ligaments before, and they are a beetch.. ;)

Anyway, my question is: Are any of you aware of any therapy which may help his ligaments heal faster? i.e. a form of exercise which won't cause him to re-injure it all the time, like swimming maybe? How about massage?

Just fishing for ideas, this injury is in a difficult place as he loves to run.. And it's hard to keep him just walking.

Thanks! :)
